"Quelqu'un d'extraordinaire" or "An Extraordinary Person" is a Canadian French-language short film. And if you hear this combination, what is the first person you think of? If you do not respond Céline Dion, but Xavier Dolan, then you are correct. He was "only" in charge of the editing here though as this half hour is the only directing credit by actress Monia Chokri and she is just one of several people from cast and crew here who worked with Dolan on other occasions. I must say that I found the first minutes fairly forgettable, but as soon as the action switches to the party where all kinds of dark secrets surface the film really shines a lot. It is a very dialogue-driven picture and the actresses are just as convincing as the script. It is never just chicks randomly screaming at each other. It's a strong ensemble performance and lead actress Magalie Lépine Blondeau may only stand out because of the introduction and her stunning looks, but not really because she is by far giving the best performance. Everybody's doing fine. They also did a good job of handling quite a quantity of characters in such short running time. I feel like I know all I want to know about them. The title is okay. I can see why the film received quite a bit of awards attention. I give it a thumbs-up. Worth checking out.
