Could had been better
itsabacus20092 June 2020
I felt like it ended quickly without a justified proper ending. Kinda felt like they left out 45 minutes of this low budget movie and basically left it up to them viewer on how it ends. Which to me just screams lazy writing. Honestly, I'm confused on why it's called, 'worst friends' could have easily been called, 'worst friend' or whatever, and been just fine. I feel sorry for the kick starter people that invested into this movie... Feels like they got ripped off.

Not a good moview

Not sure how anyone could rate this movie above a 4. The 2 male leads are below average actors and the dialogue was clunky. I watched this movie because I am a fan of Cody Horn. Her talents and beauty are wasted. Don't waste your time on this one.

Warning: Spoilers
Was rated 8.3 by 23 people when I decided to watch this fertilizer-bomb. 22 of those people were obviously homeless alcoholics who were reward with a bottle of Thunderbird in return for a high star-rating. I was especially floored by the terrible actor who was cast as a grade D Jack Nicholson look-a-like. Please, you've only got one life, do not spend 2 hours of it on this wretched movie. Lilly, the physical therapist is cute. Too bad the actress had an early debut in this disaster. I am struggling to find anything else positive to day about Worst Friends... was about to offer, as a positive, that it is not subtitled, but if it were subtitled, we wouldn't hear the awful script.

Funny At First, Then Increasingly Serious
gavin694212 November 2014
When Jake (Richard Tanne) is injured in a car accident, the only person willing to take care of him is his childhood friend Sam (Noah Barrow). With the aid of a tough-as-nails physical therapist (Cody Horn), Sam helps Jake recuperate, but when Sam's high school crush (Kristen Connolly) enters the picture, old habits and bitter rivalries resurface, threatening to tear their friendship apart.

While there are no A-list stars in this film, it has more than enough A-minus stars to make up the differences. Plenty of faces you will recognize, even if you are not quite sure why. The biggest name is likely Kristen Connolly, a regular on "House of Cards". And then there is Larry Fessenden, something of a living legend for writing, directing and acting in independent features.

The writer must be commended, for not only making the story interesting and humorous, but including references to "Rear Window" and "Misery", as well as (apparently) Wendell McAdams, a pinball machine creator. For reasons unknown, audiences love to pick up hints of a shared reference.

While the first half of the film deserves a 7, it ultimately gets only a 6 because of the rest of the film. For as great as it starts, and as humorous as it is, it becomes rather serious as the story progresses. Now, of course, there is some moral to the story that must be told, but it comes at the cost of viewing enjoyment. Still a worthwhile film, overall, and one that should do well.

funny & quirky indie with a dark edge
brucenadler3 November 2014
This is a damn funny little flick chock-full of great character actors in lead and supporting roles. The most recognizable faces include Geoffrey Arend (Snozzberries!) and Katherine Erbe (from Oz and Stir of Echoes), but there's a ton of others, including many people you know you know from somewhere but can't necessarily place it. There's Larry Fessenden (the first kill in You're Next), Deanna Russo (the first kill in Rest Stop), Kristen Connolly (the final girl from Cabin in the Woods), Cody Horn (tough End of Watch chick), and Richard Tanne (dude who gets eaten alive in Swamp Shark). It's a lot of fun just going through the film and figuring out where you know everyone from. Tanne and Noah Barrow (a newcomer) give the strongest performances. They star as two childhood friends who re-unite in their 20s when one gets into a car accident and needs a live-in helper. That probably makes it sound like an uplifting drama but quite the opposite. It's a demented comedy that lives somewhere between a Kevin Smith film and a Wes Anderson film. Maybe with a little Todd Solondz sprinkled in. Loved it!

pretty good movie
dajooby24 November 2014
i was surfing around for a comedy and this one came up on time warner. i liked it a lot more than i thought i would. never seen a person from the cast, never heard of the director, but thought it was solid. the humor was funny, the drama was dramatic. that's how you want your movies, right? to hit in the right places? my only issues were i thought the female characters could have been better written and that the reason for why the two "worst friends" were ever friends in the first place was not particularly clear. maybe it was not supposed to be, maybe it was supposed to be more of an artsy, ambiguous thing, but it didn't work for me because i kept want to understand what was at the root of it. why even bother with each other if all they do is cause grief? but that one issue did not take away from what was ultimately a pretty good movie with good acting and funny moments.

It's a good one!
reelessence3 November 2014
Downloaded it tonight, liked it a lot. There's some laughs, there's some tears, all-around good flick. Basically a guy is hit by an incoming ice cream truck and when his low-life dad skips town, his friend from growing up has to nurse him back to health. To say they don't get along is under-selling it. They pretty much hate each other from the start, which was one of the things I didn't fully understand, but I guess there are just some people like that in life. The main character will remind you of everyone you loved to hate growing up. You know that sound Jim Carrey makes as the most annoying sound in the world in Dumb and Dumber? That's this guy for pretty much the entire movie, but it's that way for a reason, you'll see. 7/10

More than meets the eye
playsandpictures3 November 2014
This is a very interesting movie that seemed to be billed as a comedy, but is really more of a drama with moments of dark comedy here and there. It explores male friendship is a unique and complex manner by presenting two young guys who are dependent on each other in ways they're not even aware of. What makes their friendship more disturbing is the implication that they've been unwittingly harming each other emotionally since they were little kids. The central question of the movie is whether or not they will be able to break out of their toxic patterns. This is territory usually reserved for relationship movies between men and women, which makes it unusual and refreshing for a movie about male friendship. The two lead actors give strong performances and the film is beautifully composed for such an obviously low-budget affair. The story never takes the easy or cliché route, and while it may not have the Hollywood ending you're expecting, it resonated with me long after I finished watching.

8 out of 10 stars

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not even sure how I decided on this particular movie, it has no recognizable stars, I've never heard of the director, and the plot summary was less than original: a directionless twenty-something is forced to take care of his old high school buddy after he's abandoned by his jackass father after injuries sustained in a car accident. Not exactly ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND in the originality department...but nonetheless it had a high rating on IMDb and AMAZON and some good reviews, so I gave it a shot. I'm glad that I did because this little indie gem exceeded my expectations in so many ways. Yes, it's rough around the edges, the production team clearly didn't have much of a budget, but like CLERKS it gets by on solid character, witty dialogue, and unlike CLERKS, fantastic performances from the unknown cast. Richard Tanne is scarily good as the crude and domineering friend we all know and love to hate. Noah Barrow as Sam is the relatable everyman and he sells every emotional moment that is required of him. And lastly, Larry Fessenden steals his scenes playing a New Jersey used car salesman who might just win the award for worst movie dad of all-time. Over the course of the one friend's recovery, the two characters reveal themselves to be more foes than friends and they begin to challenge each other and fight. SPOILER ALERT: They don't really resolve things, but instead resolve to leave each other alone for the rest of their lives. This ending wasn't entirely satisfying, which is why I'm deducting two stars, but at the same time, it is realistic, so I understand why the choice was made. Overall, this movie is well worth trying out because it's funny and dark with great performances.

judd apatow meets todd solondz
woodstockrockjock3 November 2014
this one surprised the hell out of me. it has toilet humor like a seth rogan movie and suburban relationship angst (and new jersey settings) like a todd solondz movie. it treads that line between sentimental and dead pan. the movie itself is rough around the edges to be sure but it gets at some depressing, sad truth about growing up and losing friendships that don't grow up with along with us. most of those rogan and apatow movies are about two dudes learning to love each other more and "bro out." this is one that is more real and takes a look at a friendship with a different sort of destiny. certain parts could have used a bit more to them like the love interest where not much is done, but what wasn't there is left to the imagination and sometimes that works. here is that very time.
