- [Daryl and Bob see that the vine Walkers killed themselves at the gas station]
- Daryl Dixon: Those douchebags in the vines took themselves out, holding hands... kumbaya style.
- Bob Stookey: They wanted to go out together same as they lived. That makes them douchebags?
- Daryl Dixon: It does if they could have gotten out.
- Bob Stookey: Everybody makes it, till they don't. People nowadays are dominoes. What they did, maybe it's about not having to watch them fall.
- Daryl Dixon: Right.
- [Carol tells Rick that he can't only be a farmer]
- Carol Peletier: You can be a farmer, Rick. You can't just be a farmer.
- [Carol asks Lizzie where her knife is]
- Carol Peletier: Where's your knife?
- Carol Peletier: [Lizzie pulls her knife out] Put your T-shirt behind it. You've gotta be able to get to it quickly.
- Lizzie Samuels: Yes, Mom. I mean ma'am.
- Carol Peletier: Don't call me 'Mom.'
- Lizzie Samuels: It was an accident.
- Carol Peletier: Just don't.
- [Rick and Carol find a young couple hiding upstairs in a house]
- Sam: [Sam nervously chuckles] Whoa, whoa. It's cool. We're... we're cool.
- Ana: We have fruit.
- Sam: Yeah, we got apricots, peaches. Here, catch.
- Sam: [Sam tosses a peach down the stairs to Rick who doesn't catch it] Or, you know, don't.
- [Sam nervously chuckles]
- [Bob tells Daryl that alcohol was all he could think about when he was alone]
- Bob Stookey: When it's just you out there with the quiet... used to be I'd drink a bottle of anything just so I could shut my eyes at night. Figured the prison, the people, thought it'd be easier. The run to the Big Spot, I did it for me.
- Daryl Dixon: You gotta keep busy.
- Bob Stookey: No. I did it so I could get me a bottle. Of anything. I picked it up, I held it in my hand, but I put it down. I put it down so hard it took the whole damn shelf with it. That's what brought on the walkers, and that's what got Zach killed.
- Daryl Dixon: [Daryl pauses] That's bullshit.
- [Rick asks Carol why she doesn't say Sophia's name anymore]
- Rick Grimes: Why don't you say her name?
- Carol Peletier: She's dead, Rick. Sophia. Dead. Somebody else's slideshow.
- [Rick tells Carol that he still thinks about Lori cooking breakfast]
- Rick Grimes: Some mornings I still wake up half-expecting Lori to be there. Reminding me to pick up Carl after school or telling me breakfast is ready. Every Sunday she'd make us these pancakes that were just... god awful.
- Rick Grimes: [Rick chuckles] Clumps of flour that weren't mixed in right. Thing was... she knew it was bad.
- Carol Peletier: [Carol smiles] Why'd she keep at it?
- Rick Grimes: Well... she wanted us to be the kind of family that ate pancakes on Sunday.
- [Daryl finds the alcohol bottle in Bob's bag]
- Bob Stookey: I didn't want to hurt nobody. It was just for when it gets quiet.
- Daryl Dixon: [Daryl holds the bottle to Bob's chest] Take one sip. When those meds get in our people, I will beat your ass into the ground. You hear me?
- [Carol tells Rick that he has to accept what she's done]
- Carol Peletier: [about the murder of Karen and David] You don't have to like what I did, Rick. I don't. You just accept it.
- [first lines]
- Lizzie Samuels: [Carol talks to Lizzie through the glass in the prison visiting room] Ma'am?
- Carol Peletier: Hi, Lizzy
- Lizzie Samuels: They told me to come down here.
- Carol Peletier: Are you okay?
- Lizzie Samuels: Good.
- Carol Peletier: I wanted to see you because I'm going on a run with Rick.
- [Lizzie tells Carol that she thinks a lot of people are going to die]
- Lizzie Samuels: Do you think Daryl's dead?
- Carol Peletier: No. He had to go far away to get the medicines, so it's gonna take a while. We lost all our food in cell block D, so we're gonna go look for more and whatever else we can find.
- Lizzie Samuels: Nobody's died yet.
- Carol Peletier: Yet?
- Lizzie Samuels: I think a lot of people are going to die. It's what always happens. Makes me sad, but... at least they get to come back.
- [Carol tries to tell Lizzie that we're not people when we come back]
- Carol Peletier: Lizzie, when they come back, they aren't... people aren't who they were.
- Lizzie Samuels: Yeah, but they're something. They're someone. I'm little now. If I don't die, I'll get big. I'll be me, but I'll be different. It's how it is. We all change. We all don't get to stay the same way we started.
- Carol Peletier: Lizzie, it's more complicated...
- Lizzie Samuels: You said I was weak. I'm not. I'm strong, so I'm telling you what I think.
- [Carol tells Lizzie that she can't be afraid to kill]
- Carol Peletier: You remember what I told you to do when there's danger?
- Lizzie Samuels: Run as fast as I can.
- Carol Peletier: You run and run until you're safe. And if it's your life or your sister's life, you can't be afraid to kill. Understand?
- Lizzie Samuels: Yes.
- Carol Peletier: You are strong, Lizzie. You're gonna live. You, your sister, and me... we're gonna survive, I know it.
- [Carol tells Lizzie that one day we all change]
- Lizzie Samuels: I'm not afraid to kill. I'm just afraid.
- Carol Peletier: You can't be.
- Lizzie Samuels: [Lizzie with tears in her eyes] How?
- Carol Peletier: [Carol with tears in her eyes] You fight it. And fight it. You don't give up. And then one day, you just change. We all change.
- [Carol tells Rick why she burned the bodies of Karen and David]
- Carol Peletier: They would have drowned in their own blood. They were suffering. I made it quick. We needed the bodies gone. We needed to stop it from spreading. They were the only ones who were sick. They were a threat. I was trying to save lives. I had to try. Somebody had to.
- Rick Grimes: [Rick in a low voice] Maybe.
- [Carol examines Sam's shoulder]
- Carol Peletier: How'd this happen?
- Sam: Greenhouse around the corner.
- Ana: We were looking for a place to crash. The roof's broken now and it's been getting rain, so it's full of fruit. We were there about a day and the skin-eaters showed up.
- Sam: [Sam chuckles] Killjoys, man. Jackin' it up for the whole world. I thought everybody was an asshole before this all went down. Now I love people. You know... people who are alive.
- [Carol fixes Sam's dislocated shoulder]
- Carol Peletier: Here, lay on your back. Okay, scooch over to the edge. Just hold your arm... Grab ahold of this bag. Hold on.
- Carol Peletier: [Sam groans] And keep holding on.
- Sam: [Sam nervously cries and chuckles] No, that hurts.
- Carol Peletier: Keep holding.
- Sam: [Sam groans] I can't, I can't.
- Carol Peletier: Keep holding.
- [when the bone pops]
- [Sam and Ana say they missed the Deadie in the PJs while in the house]
- Rick Grimes: After the greenhouse, you came here?
- Sam: Yeah. We thought it was clear. We missed the Deadie in the PJs, so we dove into the bathroom.
- [Sam smiles]
- [Sam and Ana tell Rick and Carol about how long they were hiding in the upstairs bathroom]
- Rick Grimes: So how long were you up there till we showed up?
- Sam: Like, two days.
- Carol Peletier: There was just one. You had guns.
- Ana: [Ana chuckles] We have about 12 bullets. It usually takes us about five or six to bring one of them down.
- Carol Peletier: But you have knives.
- Sam: [Sam nervously chuckles] To what, stab it in the head?
- Carol Peletier: Yeah.
- [Ana tells Rick how her and Sam first met]
- Ana: We were at a refugee center together and there was a fire. People were just trampling over me.
- Sam: [Sam chuckles] Assholes.
- Ana: Sam saved my life. We didn't know each other before. It didn't heal right, but it healed. And we found each other. It was worth it.
- Rick Grimes: [the two smile alongside one another] Where are you two headed next?
- Sam: We just keep moving. We haven't been waiting for places to go bad. I mean, it's getting a little old.
- [Sam chuckles]
- [Michonne tells Tyreese that stupid gets you killed]
- Michonne: I know you're pissed. And you have every reason to be. But anger makes you stupid. Stupid gets you killed.
- Tyreese Williams: Aren't you still angry about the Governor? What he did?
- Michonne: If he was here right now, I'd cut him in two. 'Cause that's how it needs to be. But I'm not angry. I was.
- Tyreese Williams: Then why are you still going out looking for him?
- [Rick tells Sam and Ana about the prison]
- Sam: [Sam smiles] So, did we pass your test?
- Rick Grimes: We're in a prison eight miles north. If you come back with us, we can't guarantee your safety. There's an illness, a flu. It's bad.
- Carol Peletier: We've lost a lot. Kids, too.
- Ana: [Ana looks to Carol] Yours?
- Carol Peletier: No, thank God. But one of my girls, she's got it.
- [Bob tells Daryl that he felt cursed to join someone's group]
- Daryl Dixon: You never told us about the group you were with before.
- Bob Stookey: Which one? You know, when you found me out on that road, I almost kept walking.
- Daryl Dixon: Why is that?
- Bob Stookey: 'Cause I was done being a witness. Two times, two different groups. I was the last one standing. Like I was supposed to see it happen over and over, like it's some kind of curse.
- [Daryl tells Bob that he ain't going to stand alone no more]
- Daryl Dixon: Sasha and me picked that spot. We took you with us. There ain't no way anybody could've known. You ain't gonna be standing alone, not no more.
- [Rick asks Carol if she thinks it was right to invite Sam and Ana back to the prison]
- Rick Grimes: Did you think it was right? Letting those kids come back with us?
- Carol Peletier: I think it was the humane thing to do.
- Rick Grimes: But did you think it was right?
- Carol Peletier: [Carol searches through a bedroom] Look at us. Digging through drawers, hoping that... a couple of cough drops and some disinfectant might be the difference between dying and living a couple of more hours. If they're strong enough to help us survive this thing, yeah, I think you made the right call.
- Rick Grimes: And if they're not?
- Carol Peletier: Let's hope they are.
- [Carol tells Rick that he needs to face reality]
- Carol Peletier: Rick... I killed two people and you haven't said a word about it.
- Rick Grimes: What do you want me to say?
- Carol Peletier: It's not about what you say. It's about facing reality. It always comes for us and over and over again we face it so that we can live.
- Rick Grimes: So that we can live.
- Carol Peletier: That's right. That's what it always comes down to.
- [Carol tells Rick that he would've done what she did with Karen and David]
- Carol Peletier: You're a good leader. Better than I probably gave you credit for.
- Rick Grimes: I never murdered two of our own.
- Carol Peletier: [about Shane] Just one.
- Rick Grimes: He was gonna kill me.
- Carol Peletier: So were they. They were gonna kill all of us.
- Rick Grimes: You don't know that.
- Carol Peletier: If you thought it would save Judith or Carl, would you have done it then or would you have just gone back to your crops and hoped it'd all be okay?
- [Rick asks Carol how she learned to fix a dislocated shoulder]
- Rick Grimes: How'd you put his shoulder back before? You learn that from Hershel?
- Carol Peletier: Internet. It's easier than telling an ER nurse I'd fallen down the stairs a third time.
- Rick Grimes: I'm sorry.
- Carol Peletier: [about her husband Ed] Don't be. Just fixed what needed fixin'. I actually convinced myself I was happy with him. Which wasn't all that hard to do considering my idea of happiness then was just not being alone. Made a decent living. He was charming when he wanted to be, especially those mornings after he'd come home piss-drunk and... stupid. Stupid. I didn't think I could be strong. I didn't know I could. I already was.
- [Daryl and the group get cornered by Walkers in a hallway]
- Michonne: Don't have an exit.
- Daryl Dixon: Then we make one.
- Tyreese Williams: [as Tyreese screams] Get down!
- [throwing a fire hydrant through a building window]
- [Rick tells Carol that Tyreese will kill her when he finds out about Karen's murder]
- Rick Grimes: They might have lived. Karen and David, they might have lived, and now they're dead. That wasn't your decision to make. When Tyreese finds out... he'll kill you. He damn near killed me over nothing.
- Carol Peletier: I can handle Tyreese.
- Rick Grimes: When the others find out, they won't want you there.
- [Rick tells Carol that he would never have her with his family alone]
- Rick Grimes: If everybody dies of this thing and it's just the two of us, with Judith and Carl... with my, my children... I won't have you there.
- Carol Peletier: [Carol with tears in her eyes] Rick, it's me. No one else has to know. I thought you were done making decisions for everyone.
- Rick Grimes: I'm making this decision for me.
- Carol Peletier: [Carol cries] I could have pretended that everything was gonna be fine. But I didn't. I did something. I stepped up. I had to do something.
- Rick Grimes: No, you didn't.
- [Carol tells Rick that she needs to take Lizzie and Mika with her]
- Carol Peletier: If you think I'm going anywhere without Lizzie and Mika...
- Rick Grimes: If you want them to leave, to go out there with you? Lizzie's sick. Mika is 10 years old.
- Carol Peletier: [Carol cries] She can't...
- Rick Grimes: We'll keep them safe. You're not that woman who was too scared to be alone, not anymore. You're gonna start over, find others, people who don't know, and you're gonna survive out here. You will.
- Carol Peletier: [Carol in a low voice] Maybe.
- [Michonne tells Daryl that she doesn't need to go out there anymore after the Governor]
- Michonne: You were right, what you said before. About the trail going cold. I don't need to go out anymore.
- Daryl Dixon: [Daryl in a low voice] Good.
- [last lines]
- Carol Peletier: [Carol gives Rick an anniversary present she had from Ed] Ed gave this to me on our first anniversary. Please.
- Carol Peletier: [Rick takes the watch] I should have given it away a long time ago.
- [as Carol gets in the car and drives off alone]
- [Bob tells Tyreese on their supply run that it helps to keep moving]
- Bob Stookey: There should be a town a few miles south.
- Tyreese Williams: Lost a whole night. My sister, everybody else... they're probably dead.
- Bob Stookey: Well, it helps to keep moving.
- Tyreese Williams: No, it doesn't.
- [Daryl finds a Jasper rock on the ground while on their run]
- Michonne: Is that jasper?
- Daryl Dixon: Mm-hmm.
- Michonne: It's a good color. Brings out your eyes.
- Daryl Dixon: When Miss Richards went into A block, we were leaving. Asked me to keep a lookout. I'm gonna use it for her old man's marker.
- Michonne: You know all them back there?
- Daryl Dixon: You stay in one place more than a couple hours, you'd be surprised what you pick up.
