Unlike Warner Bros.' first annual blooper reel . . .
25 March 2015 | by (The Gutters of Baltimore) – See all my reviews

. . . this follow-up--BREAKDOWNS OF 1937--does not annotate any of the actors or movies from which these outtakes are gleaned. The casual film fan may note Humphrey Bogart flubbing once, Pat O'Brien gargling his lines twice, and Bette Davis singing with a cigarette in her hand before stopping to cuss a blue streak. As with most of the subsequent BREAKDOWNS theatrical shorts, this entry is long on verbal repetition and short on physical comedy. There may be one ad-lib involving an ironing board, but Warner's stock company comes off as an unimaginative lot as far as off-the-cuff witticisms or novel profanities are concerned. Inter-title cards are inserted occasionally here, but add little to the "humor." If the Warner Bros. Home Video department of today had more imagination than their predecessors who churned out each BREAKDOWNS, they would remix these pieces using modern editing capabilities. That way, maybe they could actually become funny.
