Interview: Tony Jopia talks ‘Cute Little Buggers’

With the upcoming worldwide release of the modern creature feature comedy Cute Little Buggers I was lucky enough to spend some time with the film’s director Tony Jopia to talk about his influences, bringing the bunnies to life and having fun on set.

How did first get in to filmmaking?

When I was 9 years old I was asked what I wanted to do at school. I remember seeing Airport 1975 (1974) and then not long after another film called the The Poseidon Adventure (1972). They both kind of set a firm seed in my mind that making moves is what I wanted to do. My father used to wake me up at midnight to watch all the creature feature movies that used to appear late at night. I had school the next day yet he would still wake me up at midnight and say, “Come and watch this”. It was the »

‘Cute Little Buggers’ Review

Stars: Kristofer Dayne, Steve Aaron-Sipple, Dan Abrams, Lydie Misiek, John R. Walker, Caroline Munro, Honey Holmes, Gary Martin, Dani Thompson | Written by Garry Charles, Andy Davie, Tony Jopia, Kristofer Dayne | Directed by Tony Jopia

If Monty Pythons and the Holy Grail (1975) and Watership Down (1978) taught me anything growing up, if it doesn’t look like it isn’t dressed up to attend the Playboy Mansion, rampant rabbits are dangerous. Tony Jopia takes that premise one step further with his B-Movie creature feature Cute Little Buggers.

When hostile aliens land on earth with the intension of taking over the planet to save their own race, they choose to mutate the local rabbit population. Blending the rabbits with alien DNA, they knowingly unleashed the cute but vicious blood thirsty creatures on the unsuspecting locals. As the butchered bodies starts piling and the rampant rabbits begin to rampage, the locals are forced to »

Movie Review – Cute Little Buggers (2017)

29 September 2017 11:25 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Cute Little Buggers, 2017.

Directed by Tony Jopia.

Starring Caroline Munro, Honey Holmes, Gary Martin, and Dani Thompson.

Synopsis:

A quaint English festival is rudely interrupted by curious outsiders, criminals, tourists and bloody terror from beyond the stars, as aliens seeking to repopulate their dying race unleash a terrifying and monstrous creature upon the locals – the rabbit.

Those expecting an introspective film examining the complexities of life in rural England since the Brexit vote, or hoping for a deep complex drama about the troubled relationship between a son and his estranged father, might want to look elsewhere. Cute Little Buggers is exactly the kind of film you think it is. An unpretentious, gloriously silly and cheesy love letter to the B-movies of the past. It just isn’t a very good one.

Let’s get my verdict of the film out of the way early shall we? This film is bad. »
