The television show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, is known for a few things. It has amazing animation, up beat and catchy music, and plays with fan service only at a minimum.
This movie might as well have been a completely different series. The music is terrible. None of the songs are catchy, and frequently you spend the whole song hoping it will finish. The animation is bad. The characters has strange facial expressions that frequently don't match the events on screen. The movements frequently look clunky and inaccurate. At moments it was humorously bad, at others simply painful.
Honestly, all of that could be forgiven though, if the plot wasn't terrible. I'll try to do this without spoilers. It's terrible. Fan service and pandering is only common when the creators know they have something awful to sell. Between the THIS! IS! AWESOME! and other terrible winks to the TV show, its hard not to notice the attempt to cover for the stereotypical high school girl plot. Exactly the opposite of what this show was supposed to be about.
In short, save your money and don't go see it. If you feel you absolutely have to, watch it when it goes online.
