Good Retro-Horror scary clown stuff..., 3 March 2014
Author: lathe-of-heaven from Sunny Southern California, USA

Now THIS is my kind of Horror film. Well, it is at least ONE of my kinds of Horror film. Actually, I agree FULLY with EyesMalloy and everything he said in his review. I quite honestly do not think that I could say it any better...

I Even agree with his comments about how people have gravitated to the more vile SAW/MARTYRS type films and rave about them like they were handed down to us from God (or Satan, more likely) and then come here and P*$$ all over a very well made and entertaining low-budget Horror film like this one.

I fully enjoyed it; I really did. I am SOOOOOOOOOO very weary of trying to trudge through all these 'Modern' Horror films that are saturated in 'Realism', sadism, and torture. I watch Horror films to be bloody ENTERTAINED, not to get off on someone's sick idea of seeing others suffer. YES, there are moments of pretty graphic violence here; but, in my mind anyway and for me personally, there is a frigg'n HUGE difference between brief monster violence and watching 2 hours of some depraved psycho mentally and physically torturing someone to death. In other words, in a movie like this, the violence is placed in a context of a more Retro nature and tone. This film calls to mind Horror films that were made 30 years ago such as 'HALLOWEEN', 'NIGHT OF THE CREEPS', and even more so 'THE FUNHOUSE'. YES, the 2nd segment was pretty weak and dragged on a bit longer than it needed to, but I guess they DID have to try to fill a minimum running time : )

One thing that I REALLY liked about this film was the sound design; it was also very old fashioned, and I felt, most effective. That is one thing that I have really missed in a lot of 'Modern' Horror films; is that they don't seem to give nearly as much thought to the soundtrack as older Horror films did, especially in the 1960's and 1970's. One pretty rare film that is one of my very favourites (and I have a copy of it too for anyone who likes trading films) is the 1973 Telefilm 'A COLD NIGHT'S DEATH'. One of the primary things that make it so very effective is the STRONG soundtrack; heh, it's almost a little TOO much at times, but it really adds to the creepy atmosphere of the remote Arctic research station where the only things left alive are the test monkeys and all the men are dead. The soundtrack of this film here very much reminds me of the style of that one.

There are fundamentally 2 different camps when it comes to Horror; of course I am speaking VERY broadly here. But, you have those who roll their eyes if there is even a bloody HINT of anything Supernatural and they pretty much only enjoy films that are EXTREMELY realistic and 'believable'. I myself personally fall into the other camp where I prefer and much more enjoy films (Horror or otherwise) that have more mystical or imaginative elements. That is why I really liked this one; not so much because there were any overt Supernatural overtones to the story, but, without giving too much away here for those who have not seen it yet, clearly, that clown DOES gets around shall we say... Lots of fun!

I think my summary pretty much says it all... If you like old fashioned Retro-Horror and especially if you frigg'n LOVE scary clown movies, then you will absolutely enjoy this excellent film.
