Peter Berg Directing ‘Mile 22′ With Mark Wahlberg, Ronda Rousey, and Iko Uwais

The collaboration between actor/producer Mark Wahlberg and director/producer Peter Berg soldiers on following Entourage, Lone Survivor, and Ballers. Now Berg will make a film called Mile 22, an espionage thriller starring Wahlberg as a CIA agent stationed far from home, who has to deal with a whole variety of gun-toting enemies as he transports an […]

Mark Wahlberg, Ronda Rousey, And Iko Uwais To Star In Peter Berg's Actioner 'Mile 22'

2 July 2015 2:45 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The bromance between Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg has been unfolding for a while now. The helmer has taken roles in the Wahlberg-produced HBO series "Entourage" and "Ballers," directed the actor in "Lone Survivor" and the currently shooting "Deepwater Horizon," and they've also got the blockbuster "Six Billion Dollar Man" brewing. And they've lined up yet another to collaborate on. Read More: 'Wild Tales' Director Damian Szifron Will Pen The Screenplay For Mark Wahlberg's 'Six Billion Dollar Man' THR reports that Wahlberg, Ronda Rousey (who starred in the Wahlberg-produced "Entourage" movie), and "The Raid" star Iko Uwais will team up for "Mile 22," with Berg behind the camera. Penned by Graham Roland ("Fringe," "Lost"), the story sounds pretty rote, following a CIA agent stationed in Indonesia who has to take his informant 22 miles from the city to the airport, with, of course, many »

Best of Late Night TV: Danielle Brooks's Nsfw Taystee Rap, Halle Berry Cancels, 'Couple or Friends?'

1 July 2015 12:03 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Halle Berry was supposed to be on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Tuesday night to promote tonight's premiere of "Extant" Season 2. But she canceled, apparently not feeling well, which Jimmy said was a particular blow to Guillermo, who was looking forward to seeing her. So they did a little sketch where Jimmy broke the news to his sidekick, and a lot of slapping ensued. Kathy Griffin filled in for Halle Berry, who "hurt her back" (Kathy's air quotes). Jimmy said he called Kathy Tuesday afternoon as a last-minute fill-in. Kathy took the opportunity to shade Halle a teensy bit and promote her 80-city tour. Rob Corddry, who is on the new show "Ballers, »

Ballers season 1, episode 2 recap – Raise up

29 June 2015 7:04 AM, PDT | ChannelGuideMag | See recent ChannelGuideMag news »

In the second quarter or episode of “Ballers” the clock is ticking for Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne Johnson), the richest looking poor man ever, to get a lucrative client and friend to sign on the dotted line. The retired football player turned financial advisor to pro athletes worked hard this episode to secure Dallas’ Vernon Littelfield (Donovan W. Carter). Aside from a potential client, Vernon is a friend and the classic case of a star player who wants to take care of everyone and their mom once they get a little cash in green in their pocket. The end result, as … Continue reading →

Watch: First Episodes Of HBO's 'Ballers' And 'The Brink' In Full

25 June 2015 12:25 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

With "True Detective" dominating audience eyeballs and media coverage this week, you may have forgotten that HBO debuted two other shows on Sunday night: "Ballers" and "The Brink." But now's your chance to catch up with them again for the first time. HBO has dropped the first full episodes for each show on Facebook. "Ballers" stars Dwayne Johnson and Rob Corddry and is basically "Entourage" in the world of sports. I didn't particularly care for it, but the glossy sheen makes it somewhat engaging, but not necessarily filling. As for "The Brink," Tim Robbins and Jack Black lead this one set in the world of geopolitics, following the personalities trying to stop Wwiii. Give them a look at "The Brink" below and "Ballers" right here, and let us know what you think in the comments section. Weekly Ratings: NBA Finals, Strong Start for ‘Celebrity Family Feud’ Keep ABC on Top

24 June 2015 6:04 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Monster numbers for the concluding game of the NBA Finals helped ABC stay atop the primetime ratings leaderboard for a third straight week, but the net also got nice contributions from new series.

The premiere of “Celebrity Family Feud,” which last aired in primetime on NBC in 2008, performed very well on Sunday (2.4 rating/10 share in adults 18-49, 8.66 million viewers overall), edging out NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” as the week’s No. 1 series telecast in 18-49, according to Nielsen “live plus same-day” estimates.

The 2.4 rating is the best for any summer series launch since CBS’ “Under the Dome” two years ago, and the best for a summer unscripted series since NBC’s “The Voice” results show in June 2011. In total viewers, meanwhile, the Alphabet bagged its largest regular-series audience in the Sunday-at-8 hour in 10 years.

“Feud” was followed by the premiere of “Battlebots” (1.9/7 in 18-49, 5.44 million viewers overall), which was the No. »

Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) wrote the screenplay, with New Line currently seeking directors, and production slated to begin in the summer of 2016. Ballers Recap: Man Up

22 June 2015 5:16 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

This new dramedy, from most of the team who gave you the long-running HBO show (and its recent, critically slammed, dead-in-the-water movie spinoff), seems to be working from that earlier program’s same playbook: It follows a multi-million-dollar, celebrity-filled entertainment industry, seen through the eyes of a young star and his cronies. However, Ballers is immediately doing what Entourage really should’ve done: It makes the crew’s money man the star of the show. (Let’s be honest here: E was always more interesting than Vinnie!) And there’s good reason for that: The show is created by Stephen Levinson, who shares executive-producer credits with his longtime business partner/client Mark Wahlberg. So, yeah, E created Ballers. The E on the show is Spencer Strassmore (Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson), a former Miami Dolphins defensive end who is now angling to be a financial adviser to NFL stars. Well, if he’s E, »

“Legends don’t retire. They reinvent.” This isn’t just a tagline to advertise the new HBO series “Ballers,” It’s also something the show’s star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has done his whole life. Entourage meets the NFL: Dwayne Johnson's charisma lifts HBO's Ballers

21 June 2015 8:12 PM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

HBO’s bro-tastic bacchanal, while uneven and overly familiar, is better than it deserves to be thanks to Dwayne Johnson’s undeniable charisma

At first glance, HBO’s Ballers looks familiar. The show, created by Entourage producer Steve Levinson, features a group of free-spending hard-partying characters in an enticing world. Instead of Hollywood, though, the show is set in the sports world. They could have called it Sports Entourage.

Many reviews have noted this. “HBO’s Ballers is just Entourage for jocks,” Slate says. “Entourage is currently back and in theaters, which makes Ballers — the sports-world version of the show — feel even more superfluous,” reports Variety. “Ballers plays like a revamp of Entourage spiced with flavorings from Arliss,” says the Los Angeles Times. Av Club calls it “HBO’s latest wish-fulfillment playground for dudes” and says “the new comedy from the Entourage brain trust [is] a worthy successor to its vapid, »
