Peggy still feels caught in the middle of what is going on between Don and Ted. Behind closed doors, she sides with Ted, while she can be totally honest with Don. The situation at home - especially in an apartment in an neighborhood she both hates, that hatred which is strengthened by an incident involving Abe - makes her think more about her previous kiss with Ted. Pete is feeling dissatisfied with his prospects at the merged company, and thus looks for possible other opportunities. Roger is focused on the children in his life. While he tries to be grandfather to Margaret's son, Ellery, he would rather be father to his biological son, Kevin, with Joan. Without their respective spouses for at least the first day, Don and Betty attend Bobby's camp, he who is happy to see his parents together again. Did You Know?

In the last scene of this episode, Megan wears a white t-shirt with a large, red, five-pointed star on it (along with white panties). This outfit is identical to the one that model and actress Sharon Tate wore (albeit while also dowsed with water and holding a bow and arrow) in a 1967 photo shot for Esquire magazine. The daughter of that shoot's photographer recognized the outfit and tweeted Mad Men's costume designer, Janie Bryant, to ask if the photo of Tate had indeed inspired Megan's costuming, and Bryant tweeted back that it was "no coincidence." Two years after the Esquire photo shoot, Sharon Tate was murdered by the Manson Family. See more »

Don Draper: What are you thinking right now?
Betty Francis: I'm thinking about how different you are, before and after. I love the way you look at me when you're like this. But then I watch it decay. I can only hold your attention so long.

Pass me the soap
31 May 2013 | by (Amsterdam) – See all my reviews

Help! Mad Men is turning into a soap opera. This season has on the one hand retained some of the quality of the previous seasons, but I can't help but get the feeling that the writers are running out of good ideas and that some of the main character's story lines/arcs are exhausted.

This is something that eventually happens with all series. It feels like the writers would be wise to call it quits after this season. Every new development (plot, character) seems like a repetition of something we've already seen before (and better), only in a new setting.

The writers would have to make some rigorous changes - like in season 4, when Don was living alone and passing out in the hallway of his apartment all the time -, but then that would maybe seem forced after all he and the other characters have been through. The plot would become more and more implausible, but something has to change for the series not to sink deeper into the drift sand that its gotten stuck in.
