Short and Sweet...The Fight for Women Continues

Journalism never seems like a subject that drums up controversy or conversation is our supposed tolerant nation we now live, but clear examples of such have been shown on and off ink-printed pages. Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg's short but prolific film Let Them Wear Towels will place women in the forefront of discrimination and report on the fight, and still continued, to get women on the floors, locker rooms, and press booths of sporting events. Melissa Ludtke was a writer for Sports Illustrated during the 1977 World Series when she was denied access to the player's locker room. After a very public fight, the door was opened, but the debate about female journalists in the male sanctum of the clubhouse remained. Profiling this issue through interviews with the women that fought and continue to fight the battle, Let Them Wear Towels is an inspired look into sports journalism. ESPN films and its directors give the fifty minute look a strong stamp and seal of approval for all its viewers to relish.
