In praise of pantyhose

Warning: Spoilers
Nick Orleans is perhaps Adult Cinema's leading mainstream fetishist, as he manages to inject a fondness, nay obsession, for women's undergarments into his films, sometimes overwhelming the narrative. That failing sinks "Private Moments", an Adam & Eve release that scores zero if not minus on the storytelling scale.

Throughout this rather lengthy for its time (134 minutes long compared to typical hour and a half video features) movie characters will suddenly mumble virtually identical snippets of gossip regarding the on and off relationship of the couple "Zoe and Ryan" . The viewer is left in the dark till the final reel as to who these characters are, making one wonder if old Nick merely tacked on these dialog moments in an otherwise all-sex plus voice-over show.

Long after I lost interest in this cryptic soap opera overlay to the XXX action, we discover that Angelica Sin is Zoe and Steven St. Croix is Ryan. Steven doesn't show up at all until the finale, while Zoe seems like a minor assistant to businesswoman Jasmine Klein, whose lavish mansion is the location for every scene, whether it be work or play. Klein is also credited as the movie's associate producer.

Nick includes seven full sex scenes, certainly enough to please undiscriminating fans, but somehow contrives to have virtually the entire femme cast wearing pantyhose. Of course said hose gets removed for sex or has a convenient hole in the groin area for easy access. But the tactile content that marks Orleans' work is ever-present.

Sexually Nikita Denise is the show's highlight, not given a character to play or any dialog (cheating the viewer of the joy of listening to her remarkable accent and deep voice), but incredibly alluring in her threesome with studs Ian Daniels and Chris Cannon.

Klein is unimpressive, and has very bad teeth (in need of much cosmetic work), making her central role and producer credit smack of a vanity production. Far better is Calli Cox as a sexy blonde who works opposite Angelica, as well as Monica Mayhem miscast as Klein's maid and given top billing and cover girl status on the DVD.

Ultimately we find out that Zoe is a singer planning to leave for London (as the gossip keeps reminding us like clockwork) for a big career break, but changing her mind when beau St. Croix puts on a charm offensive. Sexy finish of the three-way involving them with Calli is almost amusing, as that is how the romantic couple celebrates following Steven getting down on one knee to propose marriage. Ah, the glory of polyamory!
