When Frank met Carlitos, the musical that has just been uploaded to Disney Plus is a more than pleasant surprise.
Based on the urban legend that supposes a meeting between Carlos Gardel and Frank Sinatra in NYC around 1934, the musical is a magnificent excuse to listen to Gardel's best tangos, impeccably sung in Spanish and English, and at the same time, journeys through themes that are very close to the Buenos Aires soul, such as women, the neighborhood, friendship, gambling and many more.
The show is very emotional but also offers many moments of humor thanks to a cleverly written book by Raúl López Rossi and Gustavo González, also producers of this special.
Oscar Lajad and Pablo Turturiello, as Carlitos and Frank, do an extraordinary job as well as Antonella Misenti, playing Nancy Barbato, the young Sinatra's girlfriend and later first wife.
All items are carefully executed (scenography, costumes, cinematography) as well as the musical arrangements by Nico Posse, which give a new shine to world-renowned themes.
In short, When Frank Met Carlitos is a little gem worth discovering.
