- Sarah Barnaby: [sees the security DVD] Oh, film night. My favourite.
- DCI John Barnaby: If you like eight hours viewing in which the camera doesn't move.
- Sarah Barnaby: Didn't we watch a Russina film like that once?
- [John Barnaby picks up the letters that the postman has just delivered, and looks at them]
- Sarah Barnaby: You expecting something?
- DCI John Barnaby: No. You?
- [Sarah grins and turns round, revealing that she is pregnant]
- DCI John Barnaby: Morning, Bump!
- Sarah Barnaby: Sykes is doing very well this year; he's got more presents than me. I can't think why.
- DCI John Barnaby: Well, it's our last Christmas as a trio.
- [petting Sykes]
- DCI John Barnaby: Soon there's not going to be as much lying around, scratching bellies, nibbling treats and falling asleep on the sofa, is there?
- Sarah Barnaby: Things might have to change for Sykes, too.
- DS Charlie Nelson: She seems harmless enough.
- DCI John Barnaby: Seems, Nelson, seems? Don't forget your ABCs: Assume nothing; Believe no-one; Check everything. And never take your eye off the bigger picture.
- Sarah Barnaby: [about the new DS] So is that Nelson as in Horatio Nelson or Nelson as in Nelson Mandela?
- Mel Bridgeman: The paranormal isn't meant to be investigated. It's too dangerous. Some things are better left as mysteries.
- DCI John Barnaby: As detectives, you'll forgive us if we disagree.
- [last lines]
- Sarah Barnaby: Oh look, it's snowing.
- DCI John Barnaby: Merry Christmas, everybody.
- Sarah Barnaby: Sykes, come on.
- DS Charlie Nelson: Is there anything else you should have told us?
- Simon Fergus-Johnson: No, and I'm sorry you've come all this way to ask me that.
- DS Charlie Nelson: We haven't. We've come to speak to your wife, actually.
- Simon Fergus-Johnson: What about?
- Tabby Fergus-Johnson: I'm not sure that's any of your business. We're not exactly joined at the hip.
- Simon Fergus-Johnson: We're not joined anywhere.
- DS Charlie Nelson: So we bring them in and apply some pressure.
- DCI John Barnaby: Pressure's for masseurs, Nelson.
- DCI John Barnaby: Where's Pippa now?
- Tabby Fergus-Johnson: Why are you asking me?
- DCI John Barnaby: Because you're her mother!
- DCI John Barnaby: You still haven't said why you came back.
- Ollie Tabori: Peace. Normality.
- [smiling faintly]
- Ollie Tabori: Valerie.
