Underachieving porn romance, with rubbers
lor_31 October 2018
This early writing credit for filmmaker Jacky St. James is typical of the New Sensations Romance series, aiming to fill the niche for Couples content. It plays well enough in bowdlerized version on Pay-Cable, but is quite wimpy in its XXX original form.

In fact, director/cameraman Eddie Powell overdoes the softcore camera angles used in the XXX edition, creating something of a neither fish nor fowl compromise between Soft X and Hard X porn. There are shots showing penetration as well as the money shots at the end of sex scenes, but what hardcore fans want is largely absent.

Instead we have a predicable romance develop, mainly from afar, between children's book author Natasha Nice and a poor man's Stephen King played by Richie Calhoun. Running gag, way overused in Jacky's script, is that Richie as novelist Wes Mueller is thought to be a maniac like the characters he writes, but turns out to be Mr. Nice Guy.

As star Natasha's sister, Kimberly Kane is permitted to overact miserably in her pose as old-fashioned and protective of her sibling. Gimmick of watching a scene from one of Wes's horror novels acted out by Xander Corvus and Alyssa Branch merely shows up the project's low budget (duo running around in a warehouse/storage facility) and need to throw in extraneous sex scenes.

Chemistry, perhaps the most used word in describing porn content of late, is merely okay between Natasha and Richie, both of whom recite their dialog skilfully but without any impact. Jacky has gone on to direct and create much better material, thank goodness, while Powell continues to crank out generic porn videos by the hundred with a dull sameness to them.
