- Winner of 17 independent film awards... 'IT'S NO SECRET - Part 1' is a quasi-autobiographical documentary about acute mental illness, profound healing, and triumph over a lifetime of struggle. The story centers around the current life of Paul Summerlin, a yogi and musician, who suffered from a rare form of Schizophrenia all his life, only to be diagnosed as such at age 47. After all those years, Paul decided to go against the grain of modern conventional treatment, believing he could do much better on his own with some of the lessons he had learned along the way, if he kept searching properly. This film is a culmination of that search. Through his struggles Paul has developed his own unique and mystical philosophy, which is shared in the film, and which forms the foundation of his yogic and spiritual teaching and wisdom today. Produced and Directed by Paul Summerlin and Diana Michelle. 84min. The film contains strong language.—Paul Summerlin and Diana Michelle
- Our film work is not just for individuals, families, and communities suffering with institutionally sanctioned and socially accepted psychological labels. It is for EVERYONE that wants to improve their life. True healing, Paul insists, is possible for all, through a new and proper relationship to ourselves - our bodies, minds, life decisions, and the world; and particularly how those things relate to nature. I am here to testify about how Paul's teaching has directly affected my own life-altering spiritual progress. The message is simple and free, and within us; we just need a reminder. Paul's story is that reminder. The end goal of our work is to help people find their way back to realizing their true nature, taking back their own power, harnessing it, and living in that purpose. Real healing is the ultimate art form, and concurrently the ultimate purpose of artistic expression.
Paul and I understood the general risk involved, but couldn't predict the challenges. Those challenges have strengthened our determination to continue forward against discouraging odds. We are spreading truth and awareness of issues and subjects that most people simply choose to ignore most of the time; and we are doing it in a way that is approachable, entertaining, and illuminating. These issues and topics are 'No Secret', and our project is a bold move to put them in the forefront of public discussion where they belong. How we might define and measure success of this project may be different than one would expect; although we understand fully that some level of commercial success of the first feature would promise the potential of impacting a larger public. However, inspiring one person to a fraction of how this work has affected us, I would count as a success. - Diana Michelle
