‘True Detective’ Season 3: Despite Changes, the HBO Drama Still Has an Auteur TV Problem

12 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The long-gestating third season of “True Detective” appears to have a little extra juice in it, with word that creator Nic Pizzolatto has written two episodes and David Milch has joined as a producer.

For those who loved the first installment, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as two men investigating one crime over the course of years, the news might be exciting — but those who watched the second season might understandably be a little wary of the news.

That’s because “True Detective” Season 2 was further confirmation of a fact that savvy television viewers are more than aware of: Coming up with one good season of television does not make you a world-class showrunner.

This is especially true if one of the primary reasons for your show’s success — such as a key collaborator like Cary Fukunaga — departs. »

Forever living in his more successful brother’s shadow, Ray is a balding and pot-bellied parole officer with a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt – and he blames his brother. Sarah Paulson Nominates Herself to Play Donald Trump in New Season of ‘American Horror Story’

15 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Back when Ryan Murphy announced that the upcoming season of “American Horror Story” would be inspired by the 2016 presidential election, it was only natural to assume that some of his frequent collaborators would take on the roles of the politicians who brought actual horror into our lives over the past year. Among Murphy’s frequent collaborators is Sarah Paulson, who knows what character she’d like to play — but it’s not who you’d expect. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paulson said she’d like to play the cheeto-commander himself.

“I’d like to play Donald Trump,” she said. “Why not? That’s an acting challenge, to be sure.” Paulson’s frequent collaboration with Murphy might have suggested an appearance as Hillary Clinton — after all, she did rock a pantsuit before in her Emmy-winning role as Marcia Clark. However, she believes she could play the 45th President, »

Fargo Season Three Trailer Teaches Us That We Cannot Make Meth From Orange Juice

15 hours ago | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

The absurd comic undertones that have always been part and parcel of Fargo - both the feature film and television series - continue to come farther to the fore in the new extended trailer for the upcoming third season and I could not be happier. This looks quite simply to be one of the most gloriously odd things to hit mainstream television in quite some time and with this and the Twin Peaks revivial being poised to rapid fire into eye holes around the world very, very soon the world is about to become a significantly stranger place. It just looks really, really good, okay? From Creator Noah Hawley, the new installment of Fargo is an all-new “true crime” tale starring Ewan McGregor in dual...

‘Inside Psycho’ Review: The Classic Hitchcock Film’s Origin Story is a Wicked Twist on Hollywood and True Crime Podcasts

17 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Mark Ramsey knows that it’s sometimes best to hide the star of the show until the moment is absolutely right. It’s why, in the first episode of “Inside Psycho,” a new six-part series about the birth, production and aftermath of the 1960 horror classic, you won’t hear the words “shower” or “Leigh” or “Hitchcock” or “Universal.”

It’s a particularly striking debut, not just because of the delayed introduction of the expected cast of characters. In opening this “Psycho” origin story with a 25-minute overview of the life and crimes of Plainfield, Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein, Ramsey makes an early case that the best path to understanding the film is via a circuitous route, one with an ever-changing narrative perspective. And plenty of “Mother.”

This trail, particularly in its opening salvo, is unapologetically soaked in goo and gore. (“The following contains mature content,” Ramsey explains at the top of the premiere. »

‘Fargo’ Season 3 Extended Trailer: Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead Prepare for the Heist of Their Lives — Watch

18 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Ewan McGregor may play dual roles on “Fargo,” but it looks like both of them have met their match.

When the acclaimed FX series returns on April 19, we’ll see Carrie Coon’s police chief character Gloria Burgle take charge in investigating a nefarious crime. She carries on the “Fargo” tradition of female law enforcement characters with strong moral fiber taking down the bad guys.

As for Mary Elizabeth Winstead, she plays Nikki Swango, the girlfriend of the long-haired McGregor brother. She seems good for him. Not only is she loyal and supportive, she also seems to not suffer fools gladly, judging by her grousing about “unfathomable pinheadery” in the extended trailer below.

'Legion' Primer: What to Know Before the Season Finale

19 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter - TV News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - TV News news »

[Warning: This story contains spoilers from the first seven episodes of FX's Legion.]

It's hard to wrap the mind around Legion, the FX and X-Men series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. Blame the multiple levels of reality, the battles being waged within series lead David Haller's (Dan Stevens) fragile mind, for the show's level of complexity. Add the words "Shadow King," as well as a surprise appearance from a man who looks like Two-Face in the penultimate episode of the season, and you can be forgiven for needing a dose or two of your favorite headache medicine.

Legion Season 2 Won’t Follow The Comic Storylines Too Closely

FX’s Legion is approaching the end of its first season, and up to this point it’s garnered great acclaim from fans and critics alike for its brilliantly unconventional (if at times a little confusing ) approach to the standard “superhero” story – although, some have taken issue with its refusal to acknowledge certain elements from the source material.

Though the show is set in the established continuity of 20th Century Fox’s big-screen X-Men universe, it’s yet to draw too heavily on the movies or the comics for inspiration. Last week’s penultimate episode did finally drop a few hints that Charles Xavier was David’s real father (we saw an X-spoked wheelchair and a bald chalk drawing), but stopped just short of mentioning him by name.

Good news, dontcha' know: FX has released the official full trailer for Fargo Season 3.

After debuting numerous promo images and short teasers in recent weeks, the network has finally released a longer (and more informative!) preview for the new season of one of its most critically acclaimed series.

The new season, set in 2010, will star Ewan McGregor in dual leading roles (his first major TV roles), as both of the near-identical Stussy brothers.

Who are they? Successful Emmit (the "Parking Lot King of Minnesota") and Ray, a younger and significantly more slovenly parole officer who resents his brother.

The cast includes many other impressive talents, including Carrie Coon (The Leftovers) as the town's police chief, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Braindead) as Ray's girlfriend, and David Thewlis as "V.M. Vargas."

And let's not forget the fabulous Scoot McNairy from Halt and Catch Fire as Maurice LeFey, who appears to have a »

New Line’s Game Night Fills Out Cast With Kyle Chandler And Sharon Horgan

24 March 2017 9:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Bloodline‘s Kyle Chandler and Sharon Horgan are among the final contestants to enlist for New Line’s all-star comedy, Game Night.

Word comes by way of Deadline, confirming that Chandler and Horgan have joined a cast comprised of Jesse Plemons (Fargo), Lamorne Morris, and Billy Magnussen. The former will play architect Brooks, who regularly devises a series of fun-filled games for his nearest and dearest. Sharon Horgan, meanwhile, has signed on to play Sarah, a razor-sharp participant who hatches a side plan during the early hours of the night that threatens to derail the entire occasion.

Beyond that, story details are being kept firmly under wraps for the time being, but we imagine the remainder of the cast will pair off into separate couples – couples who regularly participate in a Game Night for an evening of drinks, board games and general malarkey. What should be a treasured tradition quickly »

Amy Brenneman in “The Leftovers”: HBO

Amy Brenneman is returning to CBS. The “Judging Amy” star will topline the network’s pilot “The Get,” about “a team of tireless Internet journalists who pursue and expose stories of injustice using their unconventional investigative techniques in today’s anything-goes world of reporting,” Deadline writes.

Brenneman will take on the main character, Ellen, a journalist “who has been known to push boundaries in order to find the truth.” Written by Bridget Carpenter (“11.22.63”), “The Get” co-stars Brad Garrett (“Fargo”), Emayatzy Corinealdi (Ava DuVernay’s “Middle of Nowhere”), newcomer Alex Fitzalan, Jeananne Goossen (“Nashville”), and Michael Rady (“UnREAL”).

According to Deadline, Carpenter serves as showrunner and executive producer on “The Get.” The pilot was directed by James Strong, also an exec producer.

Brenneman currently stars on HBO’s “The Leftovers,” a dark drama about the aftermath of a Rapture-like event in which two percent of the world’s population vanished into thin air. Co-starring Justing Theroux (“The Girl on the Train”), Carrie Coon (“Gone Girl”), and Liv Tyler (“Lord of the Rings” franchise), the series’ third and final season begins airing April 16.

The actress’ other credits include six seasons of “Judging Amy,” a multi-generational family drama which Brenneman co-created. Brenneman played Amy Gray, a family court judge living in Hartford, Connecticut with her mother and daughter. She also portrayed Dr. Violet Turner in Shonda Rhimes’ “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, “Private Practice,” from 2007 to 2013.

Amy Brenneman to Star in CBS Internet Journalism Drama “The Get” was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story. »

"Fargo" Teases Third Season of Polite Crime, Red Snow, and Twice the Ewan McGregor

by Daniel Crooke

For all of those hunkered snug in the cold and goin’ crazy down by the lake after a year of anticipation over the third season of the FX anthology series Fargo -- inspired, of course, by the Coen Brothers dark comedy of the same name, not to mention a buffet-filled bevy of narrative and thematic homages that span across their entire filmography -- here’s a home baked slice of warm comfort: the official trailer for the long-awaited return has finally been released.

While the idea of adapting the iconic Midwestern crime saga for the small screen may have once seemed to border on the sacrilegious, the first two seasons delivered enough satisfying, respectful riffs on the source material to silence its naysayers while also surprising audiences with its acute yet divergent grasp on the world and wit that made the original film so great.
