Anthony Nelson, the director and writer, took many elements from his own life to write the script. He's often spoken about how personal the story is to him.
Chago, played by Joshua Trevilcock, was in Tennessee filming "All the Wrong Ingredients" only three days before beginning production on Time at Fort Peck. Cinematographer, David George, chauffeured Joshua Trevilcock, along with a few other crew members, from Tennessee to Montana in his own cross-country bus.
By far, the most exciting scene to film was the when Chago and Maya (Joshua Trevilcock and Brenna potter, respectively) are nearly caught by the helicopter. Cinematographer David George was overjoyed to film the helicopter as it made passes overhead, only a dozen feet away, each take.
