Why We Should Expect To See This Major Star Wars Character Die In Episode VIII

5 December 2016 8:25 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

If there is one thing all true Star Wars fans can agree on is that the Force works in mysterious ways for the most part.  With Episode VIII just a little over a year away it is that time to start speculating what the movie will entail.  After the highly successful release of The Force Awakens last year the biggest complaint from old school Star Wars fans was that it too closely resembled the original trilogy along with the short amount of time Luke was in the film.  With so many similarities between The Force Awakens and the original trilogy the similarities between Luke Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi seems to be the last piece to connect the new trilogy to the old.  The journey that we have seen Luke Skywalker take has been molded from his first mentor.  With Luke taking on a more dominant role in Episode VIII »

Yes, Emotional Support Turkeys Exist — This One is Named Easter

23 November 2016 10:32 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Emotional support dogs get all the glory. We get it, they’re funny and cute. But did you know that there are emotional support animals of all stripes? Including, for instance, turkeys.

Meet Easter. The bird was found as a chick by some friends of Jodie Smalley on — you guessed it — Easter Day. They brought the bird to her and she raised it to a healthy adult, who now functions as Smalley’s support animal.

“Easter came to me as a tiny poult at an emotionally difficult time in my life being in a mentally abusive and failing marriage,” Smalley explains on her Facebook page. »

‘The Magnificent Seven’: How The Remake’s Score Reflects the Vision of Late Composer James Horner

15 September 2016 12:12 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Director Antoine Fuqua was provided with a surprising gift when he began making his contemporary remake of “The Magnificent Seven”: Seven themes composed by the late Oscar-winning composer James Horner (“Titanic”), who died last year in a plane crash. Horner didn’t live long enough to screen any footage, but he read the script and provided the backbone of the score for Fuqua. Indeed, after collaborating on “Southpaw” together, Horner convinced the director to make “The Magnificent Seven” when he was ambivalent about the project and worried about financing.

Horner, in fact, was on such a steady ascent before his fatal crash (including Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge” and “The Great Wall”), that he discussed  greater collaboration with producer-composer-arranger Simon Franglen (the Grammy-winning “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic”). They also worked together on the gritty, electronic-tinged “Southpaw,” and Franglen later arranged “Skyfall” and “Spectre” for composer Thomas Newman. »

Tiff 2016: ‘Snowden’ Star Joseph Gordon-Levitt Supports Edward Snowden’s ‘Patriotism’

10 September 2016 8:25 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

After portraying Edward Snowden, Joseph Gordon-Levitt believes Snowden is a different kind of patriot.

“He really was doing what he did out of a sincere love for his country and the principles that the country is founded on,” Gordon-Levitt said during a press conference for Oliver Stone’s “Snowden” at the Toronto International Film Festival Saturday.

“There’s the kind of patriotism where you’re just allegiant to your country no matter what and you don’t ask any questions, but there’s another kind of patriotism, and that is what I really wanted to show in this character, which is the kind of patriotism that he grows into over the course of the nine years,” Gordon-Levitt said.

Oliver Stone Interview: Why ‘Snowden’ Is His Answer to American Bullies

9 September 2016 9:25 AM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Nobody owns Oliver Stone. I’ve talked with this filmmaker for decades, and he’s consistent to a fault. The Oscar-winning writer-director (“Platoon,” “JFK,” “Wall Street”) has always gone his own way. If there’s an impediment, he’ll find a way around it. Hell, he’ll even con the El Salvador government to give him army soldiers for a movie critical of El Salvador.

Which is one reason why Stone met with Nsa whistleblower Edward Snowden in Moscow, not once, or twice, but nine times. Stone will tell you: You can’t trust the United States government. You can’t trust the Nsa, CIA, or FBI. You can’t trust the Hollywood studios, because those are corporations run by lawyers. And you certainly can’t trust the media.

Taylor Swift may not have attended the MTV Video Music Awards, but she's still attending to very important matters - namely, jury duty. While serving her civic duty in Nashville, Tennessee, Swift took a selfie with a fellow juror (and fan), who officially had the best time anyone has ever had on jury duty. Twitter user Madison Lewis posted the photo of her mom and Swift beaming, writing, "My mom just casually has jury duty with Taylor Swift!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" And all 16 exclamation points are totally justified in this instance. Lewis tells People that Swift, 26, was very friendly with the fellow jurors - her mom included. »

The MTV Video Music Awards are basically Kanye West's Super Bowl.  Given the stage during the awards show (where he was introducing the music video for his song "Fade"), West took a few minutes to talk about stuff, as is his way. While he didn't elaborate on his 2020 presidential platform - he announced his candidacy during last year's VMAs - he did address the controversy surrounding his song "Famous," his love for Beyoncé (and Taylor Swift) and the future. Here are the 11 most Kanye quotes from Kanye's rant. 1. On his identity: "I am Kanye West. That feels really great to say, »

Arthouse Audit: Natalie Portman’s ‘A Tale of Love and Darkness’ Tops Limited Openers

21 August 2016 10:56 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Late August is not prime release time for top-end specialized films. While the quality of new entries this week is better than usual, two Sundance premieres, A24’s “Morris from America” and Werner Herzog’s documentary “Lo and Behold” are also hitting prime exposure on Video on Demand.

The best limited theatrical opening went to rookie director Natalie Portman’s “A Tale of Love and Darkness” (Focus), shot in her native Israel. The breakout of the month is CBS Films’ second-week expanding “Hell or High Water” (Lionsgate), which looks headed for Top Ten-level grosses over upcoming weeks.

First Trailer for Action Thriller 'Billionaire Ransom' with Ed Westwick

11 July 2016 4:45 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"If we get this done, biggest ransom in the history of the world, my friend." Gravitas Ventures has unveiled a trailer for a film called Billionaire Ransom, an interesting action thriller of sorts. The story is about a group of kids from rich families at a boarding school on an island who take matters into their own hands when the campus is taken hostage by criminals. The cast includes Jeremy Sumpter, Phoebe Tonkin, Ed Westwick, Dominic Sherwood, Elliot Knight, Sebastian Koch, and Sara Stewart. Not really sure what to make of this, some weird scenes in this trailer, but maybe it has some intriguing twists and turns. Then again, this seems like it could straight-to-dvd and it would matter either. It's made by the director of I Know What You Did Last Summer who hasn't really made much else since that film hit in 1997. See below. Here's the official trailer »
