It's interesting if you're Taiwanese

Warning: Spoilers
Taiwan is very convenient, you would never need to cook. There are mountains everywhere, but people don't camp outside because it's extremely hot and humid. In this show, everyone had basic knowledge for camping, compare to western counterpart where some don't know anything. It's really interesting in contrast to western world, where they complain. No one complained here but everyone tried their best. I can't imagine camping in Taiwan, it's extremely hot, so I applaud that. Interesting show but it's not like US drama.

The guy here looks like Kent Clark by the way lol, especially his hair. I'm sure this was intention character.

Probably not really meant for overseas consumption
oekakiaddict26 June 2023
I'll preface this with I'm Taiwanese diaspora and agree with the review that says this is probably only good if you're Taiwanese.

A lot of this is cultural context, where most working people live in the major city related to the field: Taipei for banking and media, Hsinchu for science, Taichung for tech, etc. Because so many people end to flocking to certain cities for work and convenience with access to food in a fast paced life makes it so that you often don't cook your own food often, or you try not to do anything that eats into your time. So an idyllic camping life where you're forced to slow down and get to casually chat with your friends is something to relish, since you're basically working hard in a toxic rat race the second you become school aged.

Overall this is probably only entertaining for people who: are Taiwanese and get the cultural nuance, or also live similar lives constantly living in a fast paced environment. I give this a 7 because while I enjoyed it, I can understand why someone else may not so it's better to just skip if you don't like watching a slice of life comedy ensemble.

It's really heartwarming reality tv
luangela-2761030 March 2024
I really enjoyed Light the Wild. It's really heartwarming reality tv. It's about a bunch of stars getting together, enjoy camping or hosting a airbnb, playing games, cooking, missions, with sprinkles of nature and learning of cultures. I can see why other reviewers may not like it, because it's slow reality tv. But it's like a nice, smooth wine. If you understand Chinese like me, this may be more enjoyable to watch and listen to. Feels like a bunch of friends getting together and enjoying a good time. It's unlike a lot of trashy reality tv out there... Environment? Cozy, dreamy. Cast? Getting together to have good time vibes.

First is light the night and now is light the wild. Does Netflix really like showing garbage.
kmhlbeavis4 June 2023
Why does Netflix keep showing this garbage. They seem to have an infatuation with Ruby Lin. I don't see the appeal. I went through 2 episodes, please don't ask me why. It was against my better judgement. The same garbage. Night the light was really bad and this is a whole lot worse. I didn't think that Netflix could involve itself in a new level of garbage but they managed to do it in craptacular fashion. I wonder why they chose not to renew triad princess, that is from Taiwan also and is much better than this garbage. I Really don't see this as being something worth watching. I highly don't recommend it. Please do not waste your life watching this garbage or you will surely regret it.

Food, sweetness and friendliness.

Warning: Spoilers
As much as I loved Light the Night, this is reality television. Mostly, they cook their own food and once in a while have a small challenge. It's very 'user friendly' and I'm sure for those who know these actors well it is a good look into how they are when they are not in character. However, I get the sense that they are having a good time more than the people watching. There seems a little point to this little series. Nothing really happens.

I couldn't say that this is a complete waste of time, though. I have noticed that there are people who think that this is garbage. I don't think it is as those who are fans of the actors will get a look into their lives, that they otherwise would not be getting. So it does have some value. Although, I'm not sure, I should be calling it a show so much as a look into their lives.

I would prefer Light the Night, though. This is a series of episodes for watching people go camping that don't necessarily go camping very often. However, it is still not entertaining for one such as I, that does not really know these actors from other series.

In saying all this, the series can teach you a thing or two about hiking, and also a thing or two about Taiwan. Nature seems beautiful as do the butterflies.

I'm only here for the food. Are there garlic/onion free vegetarian options?
