Hack/Slash Comics Series Heads For TV

15 October 2015 5:24 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

After years not getting anywhere near its occasionally-announced movie adaptation, Tim Seeley's Hack/Slash is now being developed as a TV series. Rights-holders Relativity have shifted it to their television arm, where the script is currently being put together by action-movie regular Skip Woods.Seeley's brainchild has been haphazardly published by first by Chicago's Devil's Due and then by Image Comics since 2004. The premise is that Cassandra Hack, once the Final Girl in a horror scenario, took that experience and put it to some good use. She now travels the Us, in various states of undress, hunting and killing slashers, backed up by the mysterious thug Vlad, who wears a gas mask and carries meat cleavers as his weapon of choice. The stories have generally been original to the comic, but there have been celebrity cameos from Child's Play's Chucky and Hp Lovecraft's Reanimator Herbert West. It's not what you'd call highbrow, »

Revisiting Star Trek Tng: Galaxy's Child

25 September 2015 12:04 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Who doesn't like a Star Trek: Tng episode about Geordi Laforge's love life? Er... James' weekly season four look-backs continue...

This review contains spoilers.

4.16 Galaxy's Child

The Enterprise welcomes aboard Dr. Leah Brahms, an engine specialist who helped design the Enterprise’s engines. Geordi is looking forward to meeting her, mainly because in the previous season he fell in love with a hologram version of her. Clearly, none of this can go wrong.

But somehow, it goes wrong. Brahms is uninterested in Geordi’s personal interest in her and cares more about negging his engineering modifications. How can this be?

Meanwhile, the Enterprise has found a weird space-fish in orbit around a nearby planet. Since they’re ahead of schedule, they decide to check it out (would they have ignored it if they weren’t? “Captain, there’s some new life over there, should we seek it out?” “No Data, »

18 Star Trek screen projects that never happened

16 September 2015 12:50 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Across film and TV, there have been many Star Trek projects that never got the greenlight. Such as these...

Since 1964 (yep) there have been Star Trek projects that simply didn't make it to the big or small screen. And before Star Trek's second (proper) coming in 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the franchise had more than its fair share of attempts to come to life, and then be reborn.

This lot in fact...

Star Trek – The (original) Original Series

Here's a thought – the original Star Trek series wasn't supposed to be the original Star Trek series.

The pilot that sold the show to NBC was in fact the second pilot, after the original, entitled The Cage, filmed at the end of 1964, was deemed too cerebral. That's on top of having other multiple issues that TV executives (and test audiences) of the time couldn't cope with – you know, like gender equality in the workplace. »

Revisiting Star Trek Tng: Clues

21 May 2015 11:22 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

This week's Star Trek Tng episode is distinctly average, and its central mystery doesn't quite stand up to repeat viewings...

This review contains spoilers.

4.14 Clues

The Enterprise crew are collectively having some personal time after completing a mission early. Worf is taking a mok'bara class. Picard is showing Guinan his Dixon Hill holodeck program. And Crusher is growing some moss. I don't even have to make jokes any more, that's literally what she's doing. Data informs Picard that they've found an interesting star (Again, not joking) with an unstable wormhole and an M-class planet nearby. The wormhole disappears then reappears close to the ship, flinging it away and apparently knocking everyone on board unconscious.

When the crew awakes, Data tells them they were only out for around 30 seconds or so. As Crusher tends to the crew's minor injuries, she realises that her moss has grown a full day's worth. The »

Revisiting Star Trek Tng: Devil's Due

7 May 2015 10:19 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Picard's pyjamas! The devil! Judge Data! This week's Tng lookback reaches a hugely fun courtroom episode, Devil's Due...

This review contains spoilers.

4.13 Devil's Due

Picard is watching Data perform as Ebeneezer Scrooge on the holodeck when the ship receives a distress call from a Federation science team on Ventax II. The planet's population is rioting because it just reached the end of an alleged thousand-year contract with Ardra, their planet's version of the Devil, which promised the citizens peace and prosperity in return for becoming her property when the contract was up. Remember: always read the small print.

With a mob holding most of the science team hostage, Picard beams down and gets his negotiating pen out. As he attempts to quell the superstitious crowd's fear, Arda appears, announcing that "Time's up."

In an attempt to convince everyone that she is who she says, she briefly takes on the form »
