'Magnificent Seven' and 'Storks' Look to Turn Around Box Office Fortunes

'Magnificent Seven' and 'Storks' Look to Turn Around Box Office Fortunes
On the heels of the worst weekend of the year so far (based on cumulative gross for all titles) this weekend should perk things up a bit as MGM and Sony's The Magnificent Seven remake and WB's animated feature Storks are looking at strong openings. Projecting just how well this weekend's newcomers will perform, however, is something that's raising a few eyebrows in the wake of recent weeks and last week's box office bloodbath where not one, but two of the week's three new wide releases came in well below expectations, and all three failed to open over $10 million. Industry expectations for Magnificent Seven and Storks have both films opening around $30+ million. For Storks this number appears to be about right on target, but for Magnificent Seven it seems grossly conservative. Sony is projecting a $30-32 million weekend, but if it doesn't top $40 million it would be a bit of a surprise.

'Once Upon a Time': Why Belle's Pregnancy Might be the Worst Idea Ever
Once Upon a Time dropped a baby bombshell in the episode "Devil's Due." While fans have probably known for a while that actress Emile De Ravin was pregnant there was no guarantee that Belle would be similarly with child. That all changed in "Devil's Due" as Rumple and the audience found out that Belle was expecting with his second child. In no uncertain terms, this an absolutely terrible idea.

Thanks in large part to actor Robert Carlyle, the audience is always kept in suspense to what Rumple is going to do, even when history says it will be the wrong and selfish choice. In "Devil's Due" Rumple was faced with yet another moral conundrum and yet again chose the evil path. Despite everything Rumple has done this might be the most horrible act yet and it finally puts him way beyond redemption.

Hack/Slash Comics Series Heads For TV

After years not getting anywhere near its occasionally-announced movie adaptation, Tim Seeley's Hack/Slash is now being developed as a TV series. Rights-holders Relativity have shifted it to their television arm, where the script is currently being put together by action-movie regular Skip Woods.Seeley's brainchild has been haphazardly published by first by Chicago's Devil's Due and then by Image Comics since 2004. The premise is that Cassandra Hack, once the Final Girl in a horror scenario, took that experience and put it to some good use. She now travels the Us, in various states of undress, hunting and killing slashers, backed up by the mysterious thug Vlad, who wears a gas mask and carries meat cleavers as his weapon of choice. The stories have generally been original to the comic, but there have been celebrity cameos from Child's Play's Chucky and Hp Lovecraft's Reanimator Herbert West. It's not what you'd call highbrow,

Revisiting Star Trek Tng: Galaxy's Child

Who doesn't like a Star Trek: Tng episode about Geordi Laforge's love life? Er... James' weekly season four look-backs continue...

This review contains spoilers.

4.16 Galaxy's Child

The Enterprise welcomes aboard Dr. Leah Brahms, an engine specialist who helped design the Enterprise’s engines. Geordi is looking forward to meeting her, mainly because in the previous season he fell in love with a hologram version of her. Clearly, none of this can go wrong.

But somehow, it goes wrong. Brahms is uninterested in Geordi’s personal interest in her and cares more about negging his engineering modifications. How can this be?

Meanwhile, the Enterprise has found a weird space-fish in orbit around a nearby planet. Since they’re ahead of schedule, they decide to check it out (would they have ignored it if they weren’t? “Captain, there’s some new life over there, should we seek it out?” “No Data,

18 Star Trek screen projects that never happened

Across film and TV, there have been many Star Trek projects that never got the greenlight. Such as these...

Since 1964 (yep) there have been Star Trek projects that simply didn't make it to the big or small screen. And before Star Trek's second (proper) coming in 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the franchise had more than its fair share of attempts to come to life, and then be reborn.

This lot in fact...

Star Trek – The (original) Original Series

Here's a thought – the original Star Trek series wasn't supposed to be the original Star Trek series.

The pilot that sold the show to NBC was in fact the second pilot, after the original, entitled The Cage, filmed at the end of 1964, was deemed too cerebral. That's on top of having other multiple issues that TV executives (and test audiences) of the time couldn't cope with – you know, like gender equality in the workplace.
