IMDbTV Pick: Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

The subtle trick Showtime's "Penny Dreadful is that it is far less about the blood, gore and the specter of gruesome death than the sharp pain and exhilarating pleasure of living, and the terror of feeling alone even in close company. Read our review in the May Picks section.

The Feud Intensifies
17 October 2013 | by (Buffalo, New York) – See all my reviews

A feud that started a few episodes ago with current Detective Danny Pino and former SVU detective Dean Winters really intensifies as Winters is accused of rape by a former club girl during an undercover operations he was conducting. The fact that Winters and Mariska Hargitay are rekindling things is giving Pino a whole lot of jealousy. Devoted SVU fans know they were briefly an item in those early episodes of 1999-2000 years.

Winters sure that Pino snitched to internal affairs ratchets things up by digging into Pino's past which was also as an undercover cop. He manages to dredge up some dirt that could end Pino's career and his marriage as well.

Winters character has matured as well in years from the days he was an eager young cop. If he thought SVU was exposed to life's seamy side, in narcotics he's really seeing life's underbelly.

Good to see what Dean Winters has done with Detective Brian Cassidy over the years.
