The letter from Deanna to Carlene reads: "If you're reading this, it means I finally got the courage to put it in the mail. I know you've been calling but I can't face you - it's not about the fight. I forgave you for that a long time ago. I know it's hard to hear about the end of the world all the time. People don't want to be reminded of it. I've finally admitted to myself that ther (sic) might be something worse than the end of the world - rejection... Carelene (sic), I love you. I realize now that you make life worth living. You showed me that there are good things in this world and that it would be worth rebuilding after the world's collapse. It's cowardly to say it like this, but I've never felt this way before.
