It's the summer of 1964 and 13-year old Aaron Stanley and his family have recently moved to New Zealand after his Kiwi mom became homesick. Raised in the U.S., Aaron prefers to hang out with an expatriate American friend, Wicke, and they manage to avoid the local bullies. But when Wicke's family moves away, Aaron finds himself on his own. Aaron's father, a WWII vet with a stern demeanor towards his son, thinks the boy just needs to toughen up. One night Aaron witnesses an aerial battle between two UFOs over the woods near his home. Both ships crash and Aaron confronts the pilot of one of them, a shape-shifting alien named Lotse who claims to be a galactic peace officer. Lotse requests Aaron's help locating the other crashed pilot, a dangerous criminal he'd been pursuing. But when Aaron finds the wounded pilot of the second ship, Tyr claims he's the real cop.
