Scandal: Top of the Hour
24 June 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

When it appears as if the presidency of Fitzgerald Grant couldn't go any worse, Olivia rescues him *again*. The CIA Director won't be happy, though. Through Jake, Olivia is able to get intel on where the hostages are kept to Fitz so he will send a SEAL team in to rescue them. Meanwhile, Huck and Quinn tale the CIA Director, hoping to find where he makes his public drop offs, looking to get dirt on him. It appears his front in the cleaners, and the CIA Director learns of Quinn's encroachment on his affairs. The client of this episode for Pope and company is a CEO linked romantically (two torrid affairs when she was 24 and her marriage wasn't quite solidified yet) to a potential Supreme Court judge! There is a lot to navigate through for Pope and her team as they must help to halt a faltering marriage as her client (Sharmila Devar, of "House. MD" fame) contends with a husband who no longer trusts her. He even asks for a paternity test as their daughter was born around the time of her affair. Even worse is that her client's company want to use a morality clause to fire her and save them from a load of bad press. The show especially does well at allowing a situation remind Olivia of what her relations with Fitz is and has continued to do to her. The repercussions of betrayal and ghosts of the past: Top of the Hour covers these extremely well. Solid hour of television. The phone conversation between Fitz and Olivia is rife with aching and agony. Seeing Fitz with hope and relief is a change considering the stress he's been under. The presidency is always seen as a grind on Scandal. Knowing that Obama's hair was black going into the presidency and is now grey only explains just what being President can do to age you.
