Storyline

A nervous Ted receives an unexpected telephone message from The Captain, his old girlfriend Zoey's wealthy ex-husband. Ted believes The Captain called to exact his revenge against him, thus he tries to avoid The Captain's follow-up call. Ted, Robin and Lily reminisce about the last time they saw The Captain a year and a half ago at an art gallery, but each remembers the evening slightly differently. As they piece together their three stories, in there may lie the real reason The Captain got back in touch with Ted, and why that evening affected one of the three so deeply. Meanwhile, Barney, who was not there that evening, tries to infiltrate himself into Ted, Robin and Lily's individual stories, while Marshall wants Ted to reconnect with The Captain on the minute possibility that Marshall will get to sail on The Captain's boat. Trivia

Barney mentions a play from the play-book "the Royal Archduke of Grand Fenwick". This may have been taken from the 1959 film "The Mouse that Roared. There was no Arch Duke in that film. But there was a Grand Duchess of Grand Fenwick. Because the film is set in the fictional country of Grand Fenwick. This was probably an omage to that great little comedy. See more »

Quotes

Barney Stinson: [Ted asks Barney why he always inserts himself into any historical situations] Because crazy stories are my thing. You have architecture, Marshall has the law, Lily has art, Robin has pleasing me sexually, you all have a passion that drives you! Well, I have a passion, it's taking life and turning it into a series of crazy stories. If you can do that without me, then I don't even know who I am anymore.

A Drop In Quality
18 February 2015 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

The silliness of the character 'The Captain' always lowers the quality of an episode of "How I Met Your Mother" and this is no exception,

Plot In A Paragraph: When Ted receives an unexpected call from The Captain, the gang reminisced about their last awkward encounter with him. however, they all remember the event differently!!

I literally cannot put in words how disappointed I am with this eighth season, occasionally there will be a good episode and if we're lucky a couple of good episodes in a row. However they are few and far between and the season is nearly treading water as we slowly approaching Barney and Robins wedding day (where Ted finally meet the mother!!)
