"The research was really intense," admits Emmy nominee Karri Farris when discussing her makeup work on "Bonnie and Clyde," which is nominated for Best Miniseries. -Break- "We spent many, many hours on the phone and in front of computers, calling people, museums, emailing historians," she says about her quest to recreate the notorious bandit lovers whose crime spree ended in an ambush of police bullets in the early 1930s. Emile Hirsch starred as Clyde Barrow and Holliday Grainger as Bonnie Parker in the epic mini that aired simultaneously on Lifetime, A&E and History networks. "We contacted a forensic lipstick scientist. I didn't even know that job existed. We contacted tattoo artists to make sure we matched Clyde's tattoos to what he actually had on his body, of which there only very, very poor photos.  "We wanted to be as accurate as we could. American Themes Dominate New Crop of TV Movies and Miniseries

12 June 2014 11:43 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

A president is assassinated. Unspeakable evil unfolds in the wintry Midwest. An elderly woman makes a reflective trip to her hometown. Society is ravaged by a plague and the government doesn’t act. Two Depression-era criminals hunker down for a last, brutal stand against the law.

What do these five stories have in common? “Killing Kennedy,” “Fargo” (pictured above, in production), “The Trip to Bountiful,” “The Normal Heart,” “Bonnie and Clyde” — all stand excellent chances of landing Emmy nominations in the newly separated Outstanding Movies and Outstanding Miniseries categories.

And in an important programming trend, all of these shows (along with the sadly ineligible PBS adaptation of “Barrymore”) are archetypal American tales with American characters and themes at their heart.

“On the surface, you wouldn’t think they have much to do with each other,” says “Bountiful” director Michael Wilson, who directed the Horton Foote play on Broadway in 2013 and »

Top Ten Partners in Crime

19 May 2014 3:44 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Last year, Emile Hirsch and Holliday Grainger starred together in a TV mini-series retelling of the story of Bonnie and Clyde.

Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker were partners in crime as two of history’s most notorious bank robbers and killers, and you can see their story retold as the DVD release approaches. And if that puts you in the mood to explore criminal duos on-screen, here are ten of the best movie partners in crime.

10. Cobb and Arthur (Inception)

With all that’s going on, it’s easy to forget that Inception begins with a criminal partnership, but that’s what it is about. Cobb and Arthur work with a team, but the personnel around them changes according to the job at hand. What’s most interesting, though, about their partnership is what we don’t see, or know.

Whilst they work together, theirs does not seem to be an equal partnership. »

Win Bonnie and Clyde on DVD

19 May 2014 12:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

To mark the release of Bonnie and Clyde on 19th May, we’ve been given 5 copies to give away on DVD

Though Bonnie Parker (Holliday Grainger, Jane Eyre) & Clyde Barrow’s (Emile Hirsch, Into the Wild) crime spree is legendary, their story has never been told quite like this. Fuelled by their passion for each other and Bonnie’s obsession with fame, the couple committed increasingly dangerous robberies, leaving a trail of blood – and headlines – behind them. Aided by Clyde’s sixth sense, they stayed one step ahead of the law until their final, fateful showdown. Also starring Academy Award® winners Holly Hunter (Best Actress, 1993, The Piano) and William Hurt (Best Actor, 1985, Kiss of the Spider Woman), Bonnie And Clyde is powerful, gripping entertainment.

17 May 2014 8:27 PM, PDT | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

"Bonnie and Clyde" ambushed Emmy voters on Friday night to discuss the ambitious miniseries that aired last December simultaneously on Lifetime, History and A&E. It's a good year for the production to compete, considering the previously combined categories for minis and movies were just separated, thus creating room for more contenders. "Bonnie and Clyde" got an early head start in the industry-awards derby by nabbing four guild nominations (sound, costumes and art direction) in January. Gold Derby not only recorded the event (listen to the audio podcast below), but I moderated the chat with director Bruce Beresford, stars Emile Hirsch and Lane Garrison, writers Joe Batteer and John Rice, plus Marilyn Vance (costumes), Derek Hill (art direction), Francis Kenny (cinematography) and John Debney (music). -Break- The gang reveals the meticulous work and research that went into recreating the outlaws' America of the 1930s (many scenes were shot »
