Waking aboard his space capsule, Sam discovers himself adrift after the destruction of his mothership. Attempting to make sense of his situation, Sam has only his on-board computer, Pod, for company as he floats through the cosmos.
Sam awakens aboard his training capsule, greeted by the on-board computer, Pod. The disembodied voice informs him that his flagship has been destroyed by an engine failure, and his capsule appears to be the only vessel left in the region. Questioning Pod further, Sam discovers he is far from Earth with not enough life-support for him to survive the journey. He begins a video message for his family back home, although becomes upset and abandons his speech to concentrate on fixing the capsule. He lulls into sleep, and on waking discovers that Pod sedated him in order to keep him safe. Angry, Sam comes to terms with his situation, and reflects on his fate before completing his video will. Sending the black box out into the depths of space, Sam can only speculate on its -- and his -- final destination. On Earth, a tiny, black box is found in the wilds of Dartmoor, repeating a garbled message of love from the stars. Written by
