Trivia

When going over ground rules, the Nostalgia Critic states he won't review anything currently in theaters. He broke his own rule in 2015, because while Jurassic World (2015) was still in theaters, the Critic did a traditional review of the movie (though he substituted skits and reenactments for clips.) Doug Walker can actually make some pretty good drama
22 September 2013 | by (Valhalla) – See all my reviews

Here it is, the thing that brought The Nostalgia Critic back to life. I personally think it really is one of the best things that Doug has ever written or filmed. It brought back an internet icon doing what he loves. Does this hold up according to his fans? You bet your community of internet reviewers it does.

So we start out with the characters from Demo Reel, a show which I never watched (I like Nostalgia Critic but everything else he does seems average at best, which is why I avoided it because it had the reputation of being his worst show). The main character starts to realize he is crazy as the rest of the show starts to disappear as if they never existed. Cut back to the real world Doug has writers block of what happens next.

He then receives The Odd Life Of Timothy Green in the mail, that movie is considered so bad to him that he debates whether it was right to kill off the beloved character of The Nostalgia Critic. He goes around members of thatguywiththeglasses.com and asks whether it was right to kill the NC off. Eventually he can take it no more and writes in the ending of Demo Reel where the plot hole re-emerges.

Doug's character on the show wants to know what is going on. The Plot Hole explains, making him the Nostalgia Critic with memory loss. The rest of the cast shows up and tell him that it will be the right thing to do if the Nostalgia Critic is resurrected. His character goes through with it, swallowing everything to do with Demo Reel. He wakes up and puts on The Nostalgia Critic costume for the second time.

The acting is pretty good, but not great. I really like how in this Doug expanded his writing style to being dramatic and in this it works, either that or at the time people wanted to see Demo Reel end and The Nostalgia Critic reborn. Here the writing is the episode's best strength. You'd think that resurrecting the NC wouldn't really be that dramatic and it is understandable (he's famous for ranting, of course it's understandable!) but here it actually works (probably because of it being central to To Boldly Flee's plot).

So if you want to see the unseen last chapter of To Boldly Flee and see an internet icon being resurrected or want to see Doug Walker writing drama then this is perfect for you to watch. It is only around about 30 minutes long. It isn't the Moulin Rouge review where although it is great it only should be watched once in a while. If you enjoy the NC then this is a must-see.
