Might have been better left at the soundtrack album stage.

Miscast and pretentious, this well-meaning film ticks few of the boxes I hoped for it. Blame my expectations? Maybe. Megan Washington, though brilliant in her own right, is badly miscast here as the siren. Brilliant cinematography can't quite overcome weak concept and over ambitious direction. Like Moulin Rouge - This might have been better left as a soundtrack album than a full-length feature.

arty and interesting

To be fair, I haven't seen this film since it was in Melbourne Festival back in 2013 or 14. One of the best nights out in a long while at the Forum Theatre - upstairs was the film.. and then downstairs for a concert of the soundtrack with Paul Capsis, Megan and Tim.

Yes it is a pretentious kind of arty film - and yes the lead artists are better singers than actors.. and yes Michael Kantor is known for theatre rather than film. But what a sensational experiment! The soundtrack is the brilliance here. But the whole gig is so interesting.

The reason I arrived on this page is I have been looking for a dvd of this film for a long while. Still looking..
