Did You Know?

Harrison Wright: You know who you are. You know what this is. And don't pretend you don't. We do what needs to be done and we don't question why. We put the personal to the left. Doesn't matter who gets hurt. Doesn't matter what gets broke. It's not the thing that needs fixing, it does not matter. You want to cry about your feelings? Hmm? Really? Here? We don't get to have feelings. That's the job. Gladiators don't get to have feelings. We rush into battle. We're soldiers. We get hurt in the fight we suck it up...

Scandal - Nobody Likes Babies
11 February 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Absolutely stunning episode of Scandal really throttles us with a shocking decision of the President in what lengths he goes to "preserve the legacy" of the Chief Justice Verna. Who paid to assassinate the President? Verna! What does the Pres do when she confesses to the rigging? He kills her! Olivia comes clean about setting David up as a woman beater to an enraged Abby who returns to her momentary love affair before he accuses her of taking the memory chip. Cyrus' "man wife" is on the fence regarding whether or not to cooperate with David Rosen during a court hearing after being summoned t testify. Cy is so desperate to conceal the rigging scam he might have Charlie, his "own assassin on speed dial" to murder his spouse! Olivia turns down Edison's proposal believing Fitz will divorce Mellie for her…but after hearing of Olivia's involvement in the rigging that got him elected, he no longer will pursue her affections. Fitz' dismissal of Liv is what makes Scandal such a potent soap opera political drama. It always hurls a curve at us. With Abby at odds with her team, David now at odds with her (even though she didn't take the chip), Fitz understanding that he's the President because of a crime and deciding to abandon all and embrace Mellie because "she's the only honest one he knows", Verna's funeral and false eulogy that Fitz performs like a charm, the deathbed confession and Fitz' horror at what Verna tells him, the murder itself, and Cy and his lover's "naked conversation" where both tell all really sets this episode off. It is dynamite. Quite an hour of television. Hollis is nearly killed, Rosen's career could once again take a turn for the worse, and the President will now perform his duties with a chip on his shoulder and the knowledge that his political opponent for the Presidency should have won. The show has no absence of surprises to share and plenty of "what happens next?" to compel us to return to it.
