When the narrator talks about 'a U2 spy plane' for the first time in the introduction to the Cuban missile crisis, the plane depicted in the sequence is actually a Boeing B-47 Stratojet, which is a nuclear bomber, not a high-flying reconnaissance aircraft. See more »

JFK And World Peace
18 August 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

JFK - To the Brink is the sixth episode of the documentary series.

In it,Oliver Stone and his collaborators tries to examine the presidency of John Kennedy particularly his foreign policy and how he dealt with the Soviets and Communism. It also fully explored President Kennedy's attempts for world peace and minimization of the American's involvement in global affairs particularly wars that are taking place and the implementation of the Containment policy to prevent the spread of communism. It also reported his relationship with Nikita Khrushchev, the former Secretary General of the Soviet Union particularly in easing the tension in the Cold War and the minimization of militarism between the U.S and the Soviets for the sake of World Peace.

Also included in the documentary is the events surrounding the Bay Of Pigs and JFK's leadership when the world was at the brink of world war during the Cuban Missile Crisis. As for the conspiracy discussed, obviously JFK's assassination was also present BUT it was only in passing unlike Stone's 1991 film that stars Kevin Costner,JFK.Finally, the early years of the Vietnam War was also discussed and the opposition of JFK towards American involvement in it in relationship to his assassination as well as how everything after November 22,1963.

This was once again a good episode if not the best of all the ten episodes. It is no secret that Stone is an admirer of John Kennedy particularly in his efforts towards world peace. Also, the Cold War was also explored during his term from 1961 to 1963 and how Kennedy's efforts was magnified especially with his talks with Khrushchev as well as his leadership particularly during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Definitely,it was more about JFK's legacy. Although the episode was more about world peace and America's role in it,it would have also been good if it would have included events in the country during the 60's.But nevertheless,it was still a great episode.
