Sorry Emily Autumn fans!
27 January 2016 | by (Valhalla) – See all my reviews

I am not really that much of an Emily Autumn fan. I can see why people like her it's not only that she's weird in image (although I'd have no problem with that), it's more her entire musical style is a complete love it or hate it with it's sound, where I'm coming from is that I have a brother who's a HUGE Emily Autumn fan and considers this the absolute best music video ever made... I'd say that's a stretch even if I was one to enjoy her music as much as others.

This music video seems to have a plot, at a Victorian insane asylum people perform on stage and as they're trying to get their next act of "Girls" up and running Emily and a few other actresses completely rebel going so far as to kill one of the people working there, but still performing and thrown back in, but this time with an escape key one of them did with the "kiss exchange key" routine.

Looking at it from a story angle the plot makes no sense! Even the part where the people watching it are disgusted and people who like the music come rushing in just doesn't work. Thanks to my brother I know she's writing a book but the first 2 minutes of this video is introduction to the 4 minute song then another minute is spent showing her plan to escape, so that's about half the video spent on this and nothing makes sense. Oh and if this is meant to be a women empowering song to the extent that it is (I'm a male feminist just so you know and I find this extreme!) it just feels weird to see a man be the one who does the whole key thing with her.

I think I've said just about every complaint against the video, now onto the music. I'd say out of all the stuff I've listened to this is the most accessible song of hers if you're a complete newbie to her music. However while the instrumentation is decent 2 things kill it for me. Emily at times tries to reach high notes or something, I really don't know (if you've seen this, it's what she does the third time she says "fight") Either way it shows the limitation of her singing range, if it was meant to be a sing/scream that I've heard other bands do, she fails at that and just has me cringe every time she does it. The second is that I don't like the lyrics, it draws males and females as black and white in terms of what goes on. Do I feel that women are oppressed by societal rules and things that go on? Yes. But this song's lyrics are borderline psychotic in gender equality.

Aside from that everything else kind of sinks down into being average except maybe for the costume design. In short, there isn't really that much to it really, if you're an Emily Autumn fan then half of these complaints won't apply to you and even though I've heard that Emily is writing a book and a stage play where all of her songs will be incorporated into it to make one flowing story... If anyone brings that up i simply say, this video should be a story on it's own, I don't want to read a book in order to understand it!
