The Weinstein Company has acquired all North American rights from Studiocanal for the latest big screen adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth," this one starring Michael Fassbender as the titular General, and Marion Cotillard as the devious Lady Macbeth. The film is directed by Justin Kurzel, helmer of the brutal Australian true crime pic "Snowtown." The project is being produced by See-Saw Films. Said TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein in a statement: "Adapting a Shakespeare work like 'Macbeth' takes the ability to infuse timeless tales with originality, while at the same time preserving what makes it classic to begin with. We are excited to be working with See-Saw, the entire filmmaking team, and Studiocanal along with Michael and Marion, who are some of the most daring, profound actors of the moment."No release date has been announced as of yet.
