Reviewing the series (separate review) I criticized its tendency to get Soap-Opera-y over the past few seasons and I especially criticized the character of Pete, who would make me cringe every time he screamed LOOK AT ME! At the same time I said I liked Warehouse 13's premise and especially the character of Claudia, with H.G. Wells a close second and the rest of the ensemble a close third.

Instinct is what I was talking about - Pete spends the entire episode without once a whine, an I I, a Me Me, a Mine Mine. Not a single LOOK AT ME! or even a trace of self-absorbent narcissism. Wow! And the episode completed two stories, Claudia's tussle with the Warehouse and the latest rogue artifact, both within a single episode and without a hint of histrionics or Soap-Opera-y melodrama.

True, Claudia's tussle was a subtext spanning several episodes but subtext is not Soap Opera - subtext can be used as a link or a recurring theme, like Gormagon in Bones, that does not interfere with the resolution of its episode's puzzle or, if it is central to that puzzle, is resolved to a degree consistent with the puzzle.

Confused? So am I but what I mean is that a theme can be reoccurring without being Soap-Opera-y.

Like Claudia's mysterious tussle with the Warehouse, which turned out to be a kind of flirting, very pleasantly resolved by Claudia's admission that she wants to be the Caretaker and the Warehouse's acquiescence to same - very much like a mutual seduction.

The rogue artifact was pretty good, too. Good story well written and well-acted. Hell, Pete was not only non-offensive, he actually contributed to the story.

So, when I said, 'I like Warehouse 13' in my series review, Instinct is what I was hoping for.

As a bonus, H.G. Wells is back! I though they'd killed her off. OOPs, that was the serial with the wheel-chair guy and guess I missed her resurrection.
