Didn't care hugely for this...

...and this is coming from someone who for all their flaws likes Burbank Animation Studios' animations, most of which are between mixed feelings to quite good quality. Granted, Jungle Girl and the Lost Island of the Dinosaurs is better than D4: The Trojan Dog, Hercules and The Little Drummer Boy, but for me their best are The Count of Monte Cristo, White Fang(their best-looking) and Hansel and Gretel. There are things that are good. The animals are sweet and colourful characters, Emma's father William is a caring and ideal father figure, the music has a pleasant lilt to it and the backgrounds and colours in the animation are quite nice. In regard to the animation though, the character designs are not so good, often having a flat and rushed look to them. I was mixed on the character of Emma, she is the kind of character who eventually grows on you and I liked her bravery at the end, but her pessimistic attitude throughout most of Jungle Girl... was a major turn off and made her in my eyes a less than likable character. The dialogue is, as is with a fair number of Burbank's output, corny, and while the story is a nice if not entirely original idea it is one that could have easily been told in half the running time. To make up for this, scenes were either over-extended or scenes added that weren't always relevant. The voice acting doesn't quite come off, William, Beano and Zelinka are voiced well. But the voice actress for Emma has a noble stab at the prim and proper English accent but it does sound as though it wasn't natural to her, it's a little forced and comes and goes. Similarly, the Captain and Terry's voices come off as stereotypical. All in all, didn't care for it but you can do with worse. 4/10 Bethany Cox
