‘The Final Girls’ trailer wants chainsaws and knives, and wants them now

American Horror Story star Taissa Farmiga is returning to the horror genre, this time on the big screen and with a dose of comedy added in.

Titled The Final Girls, the film, which just released its first trailer, is the second feature from director Todd-Strauss Schulson, who is working from a screenplay by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller. Farmiga is joined onscreen by Malin Akerman, Nina Dobrev, Alia Shawkat, Adam Devine, and Thomas Middleditch.

The film’s synopsis is as follows:

A young woman grieving the loss of her mother, a famous scream queen from the 1980s, finds herself pulled into the world of her mom’s most famous movie. Reunited, the women must fight off the film’s maniacal killer.

Amazon Instant Video

While Netflix is the streaming service that grabs all the headlines and is making the traditional TV networks and movie studios sweat, Amazon has quietly been building up its own catalogue of original shows to provide some serious competition.

Amazon Studios was launched back in 2010, with the aim of producing a host of content new and exclusive to its Amazon Instant Video service, but it wasn’t until 2013 that the first pilots appeared. Their model was different in that they released all of these online, and what went to series was largely based on the reception they got from audiences. Thus quite high-profile shows like the Zombieland TV series and Onion News Empire didn’t make the grade, while the John Goodman starring Alpha House was their first hit.
