A profile of Usain Bolt, fastest man ever.
8 June 2013 | by (Houston, Tx, USA, Earth) – See all my reviews

I found this film, not quite an hour long, on Netflix streaming movies. It is a profile of Usain Bolt who over the past 6 years or so has become the undisputed fastest man alive, and fastest man ever. He now holds the world's record for both the 100 meters and the 200 meters, plus being a member of the 4X100 relay team that holds the world's record.

On the one hand I was happy I came across this film, I had wondered why he came to world notice only fairly recently, but now realize that he actually gained notice first when he was just 14 years old, competing in Junior events. So his prominence in recent years has been a product of his unusual natural abilities combined with a lot of hard work in the training weight room and on the track.

On the other hand what I saw was a happy-go-lucky overgrown kid who just wants to have fun. At one point when he was asked what he was packing for an overseas trip, maybe books. "No books, I am more of an Xbox person." Yes, he is the fastest man in the world, but he won't always be. What is he going to rely on when he gets into his 30s? No education and no interests other than playing games.

The documentary is interestingly done. It provides a good glimpse into Both himself and the Jamaican training programs. It also has good footage of some of him most memorable competitions. He is a great runner, I hope he is also preparing himself for a meaningful life after track.
