Smith and Mewes hang out in Oz.
7 April 2013 | by (Edinburgh.) – See all my reviews

I like Kevin Smith, I really do. Despite recent events making him look more and more like someone in danger of disappearing up into his own colon, he's often a brutally honest and very funny guy (and Red State is, quite frankly, SUPERB). I also like Jason Mewes, he's crude and amusing and sweet underneath the surface level of lewdness and profanity. He's not for the easily offended, and I like anything and anyone not for the easily offended.

I have enjoyed An Evening With Kevin Smith and Evening Harder: Another Evening With Kevin Smith so I expected to enjoy this, another event in which Smith and Mewes perhaps answer some questions and talk to an eager audience.

Sadly, there just isn't as much of interest here. I still laughed a few times, and still enjoyed the rapport between the two men on stage, but the focus was more on the sexual (mis)adventures of Mewes than anything film-related. Not to mention the footage filmed in Australia (in case you couldn't tell that from the title) that shows Mewes and friends enjoying the local sights and even trying out some boomerang throwing.

None of this stuff was BAD, but it wasn't what I wanted from it. In fact, I was reminded of those specials released by stand up comedians in which they use snippets of new material interspersed with either visits to places from their childhood or just footage of themselves larking around. Those things are always disappointing, but they're also easy money makers with a lot of "filler" material. That's what this is, filler in between some much better releases.

I hope.
