Following the global blockbuster hit from 2012, the loveable cast reunites for the upcoming comedy The Second Best Marigold Hotel which releases in theaters across North America on March 6, 2015. Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Dev Patel, Tina Desai and the rest of the gang are back together along with Richard Gere who joins the fun for an all-new adventure set in India. Oscar-nominated director John Madden returns as well.
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is the expansionist dream of Sonny (Dev Patel), and it’s making more claims on his time than he has available, considering his imminent marriage to the love of his life, Sunaina (Tina Desai). Sonny has his eye on a promising property now that his first venture, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful, has only a single remaining vacancy posing a rooming predicament for fresh arrivals Guy (Richard Gere) and Lavinia (Tamsin Greig »

The sequel sees the return of Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith. Fans of Smith can expect to see the 2-time Oscar winning actress on the big and little screen this autumn and I suspect during the upcoming Awards Season. She’s nominated again with an Emmy for Supporting Actress (Drama) for “Downton Abbey” and her work on the upcoming film My Old Lady, alongside Kevin Kline and Kristin Scott Thomas, is without a doubt Smith’s finest work in years and definitely worth some Oscar attention.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel will be released in the UK on February 27, 2015.
The first trailer for the sequel - which sees Richard Gere join the veteran cast - has also been unveiled.
The film centres on Sonny (Dev Patel) as he looks to open a second hotel, following the success of the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful. However, he must juggle the demands of his new venture with his imminent marriage to Sunaina (Tina Desae).
The independently-released Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was both a critical and box office hit last year, earning $135 million worldwide.
Not all sequels have to be about horror movie monsters and superheroes. Sometimes, even a hotel that caters to senior citizens gets a second chance on the big screen. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a follow-up to 2012's The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which finds Sonny (Dev Patel) attempting to franchise out his hotel, which caters to the 'elderly and beautiful'. The original location only has one remaining vacancy, which causes a problem for new tenants played by Tamsin Greig and Richard Gere, neither of whom are old enough to be staying here, though maybe a little too beautiful. Check it out as Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench also return for another stay at the Best Exotic Marigold.
I never saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel back in 2011, but those that saw it seemed to think it was pleasing enough and I'm sure Fox Searchlight didn't mind the fact it brought in $136.8 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. So, why not make a sequelc Back for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (yes, that's the title) are Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Richard Gere, Judi Dench, Celia Imrie, Dev Patel, Tamsin Greig, David Strathairn and Penelope Wilton and the plot goes like this: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 (or The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) is the expansionist dream of Sonny Kapoor, and its making more claims on his time than he has available, considering his imminent marriage to the love of his life, Sunaina. Sonny has his eye on a promising property now that his first venture, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful, »

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 is now titled The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which is an interesting titling scheme. I know a new hotel is opened in the film, but I also wonder if the title is a bit of meta-commentary on the nature of sequels and that one should temper their expectations lest they assume this installment matches the majesty of the first. I haven’t seen the first film, so I’m not qualified to say. The sequel was directed by John Madden and written by Ol Parker. It stars Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle, David Strathairn and Richard Gere. Until recently, the sequel to 2012’s sleeper hit had been known simply as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. Director John Madden, however, is insistent that it’s more than a straight sequel, entitling it instead The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
The first film took an impressive $136m. at the global box office, and the second is sure to bring audiences back for more when it arrives early next year. We’ve still got a little while to wait, with its arrival slated for February/March 2015, but Fox Searchlight is wasting no time in building the anticipation, launching the first trailer today.

Kevin Kline encounters resident Maggie Smith and her daughter Kristen Scott Thomas when he looks to take over a sprawling Paris apartment that he has inherited from his estranged father. An apartment he thought was empty. Kline and Scott Thomas’s onscreen romance, combined with scenic French locales — perhaps a modern companion to Woody Allen’s ‘20s-set “Magic in the Moonlight” — should appeal to the same target demo that can't wait to see Smith in “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2.” Cohen Media Group is booking writer-director Israel Horovitz's "My Old Lady" into art house theaters this fall. Lilette Dubey and Richard Gere are shooting romantic scenes together in Rajasthan for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. Gere is eager to learn more about Bollywood. According to a source from the unit, he has even asked for a Bollywood-styled romantic song to be incorporated in the screen romance with his co-star Lilette Dubey. "It makes sense to have a romantic number filmed on them. Lilette plays a very attractive middle-aged Indian who runs a run-down hotel where Gere descends as a guest. Romance blossoms between the two. They are now thinking of incorporating an old romantic Hindi song to accentuate their togetherness." Gere enjoys Indian food and with Lilette's help he is becoming familiar with the local Rajasthani dishes. Says a member of the crew, "Richard loves the local cuisine. "Richard loves the local cuisine. But he is wary of the spices and mirchi (chilli). Lilette and her two daughters Neha and Ira helped him pick the dishes with the minimum masala. The three ladies have also taken Gere sightseeing in Udaipur," said a source. »

More news about projects being sold at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival. This one is a film titled Time Out of Mind, a rather intriguing title for a film that I wish was sci-fi, but alas is just a drama. Set to be directed by Oren Moverman (of The Messenger and Rampart, both with Woody Harrelson, previously) the film will star Richard Gere, who has been getting into more roles recently including The Double, Arbitrage, Movie 43, Henry & Me and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. Qed is selling the international rights in Berlin, with Wme handling them in the Us, meaning they're looking to get this thing ready to film. Quoted commenting on the project, Richard Gere states: "Time Out of Mind has obsessed me for many years now. It is a profoundly human story that we are determined to make into a powerful film that speaks to everyone. »
