More news about projects being sold at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival. This one is a film titled Time Out of Mind, a rather intriguing title for a film that I wish was sci-fi, but alas is just a drama. Set to be directed by Oren Moverman (of The Messenger and Rampart, both with Woody Harrelson, previously) the film will star Richard Gere, who has been getting into more roles recently including The Double, Arbitrage, Movie 43, Henry & Me and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. Qed is selling the international rights in Berlin, with Wme handling them in the Us, meaning they're looking to get this thing ready to film. Quoted commenting on the project, Richard Gere states: "Time Out of Mind has obsessed me for many years now. It is a profoundly human story that we are determined to make into a powerful film that speaks to everyone. »

When "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" was released back in 2012, it turned into something of a sleeper hit, grossing more than $100 million worldwide and firmly placing it amongst specialty smashes of the year (alongside "Moonrise Kingdom" and "To Rome With Love"). Still, it seems like an unlikely film to warrant a sequel, but that's just what it's getting, in the form of "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2."
Fox announced that production on the sequel started today (via Coming Soon), with director John Madden and screenwriter Ol Parker returning behind the scenes. In front of the camera, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Penelope Wilton, Diana Hardcastle, Tena Desae, and Lillete Dubey are all set to return. What's more -- new cast members Richard Gere, David Strathairn, and Tamsin Greig will join the original cast, for a lovely expansion of the franchise. That's right, »

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was one of 2012's sleeper hits. It was the perfect summer counter-programming to the blockbusters inundating theaters. John Madden's film is a nice, fluffy piece that has charming actors in a story featuring a solid balance of comedy and romance with a little bit of drama thrown in for good measure. This mixture ended up yielding $136 million worldwide on a reported budget of $10 million, and that's good enough for Fox Searchlight to make The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 the first sequel in the company's history. Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Penelope Wilton, Diana Hardcastle, Tena Desae, and Lillete Dubey are all set to return, and they'll be joined by Richard Gere, David Strathairn, and Tamsin Greig (Episodes). Hit the jump for the press release, which contains the synopsis for the movie. Ol Parker and Madden will return to write and direct, »
