A great episode, intriguing and full of social detail.
Sleepin_Dragon13 November 2015
The Village is upset when Father Brown welcomes German priest Father Franc. It naturally causes some hostility in Kembleford. A man is found injured and up in a tree, his being there is very curious, fortunately Father Brown is on the case.

Best showing to date from Kasia Koleczek (Susie,) she was excellent, as was Rod Hallett (Father Franc,) the pair shared some excellent scenes together.

Possibly the best episode thus far, the mystery itself is quite intriguing, there's lots going on, but there's a lot more to this episode then just the mystery, there is a deep social aspect on show which is well realised, feelings were still running high in the 1950's post World War II. Exceptional, 9/10

The Man in the Tree

A German priest Father Franc is visiting Kembleford. Father Brown meets him at the train station.

An injured man is discovered by Lady Felicia, he was stripped of his clothes and thrown from the the train and landed on a tree.

Sid is the main suspect as he had the injured man's wallet.

The priest faces hostility from the locals, especially Susie as Poland suffered badly during the Nazi occupation. Father Franc tries very hard to reconcile with her.

Given that various characters were on the same train. It is easy to figure out that Father Franc has something to hide.

However his explanation is rather sad and shocking. It makes you understand why he tried so hard to reach out to Susie. The real monster is someone else.

Warning: Spoilers
Another great episode of Father Brown, definitey worth the watch, I'm surprised people don't talk about this show more, and the channels that usually show programmes like Vera, Murder She Wrote and the like never seem to show Father Brown which is unfortunate given it's brilliance.

Don't mention the war

Warning: Spoilers
The Man in the Tree focuses in war, with the visit of German priest Father Franc to Kembleford. Thankfully. Mrs. Bridgette McCarthy didn't pull a Basil Fawlty routine of "Don't mention the war!" that Fawlty Towers is so famous for.

Anyway, Kasia Koleczek gives a Polish presence in this episode, and it's a shame she didn't continue because her presence in future seasons would have been a marked commentary on the UK's membership in the EU.

Anyway, it's World War II that's the undercurrent of The Man in the Tree. A decent episode of Father Brown, and definitely worth watching to see how it grew.

Chesterton's?
isabelrinon18 April 2018
Though I've liked this episode and the previous three ones this one does not look like Chesterton's stories. Actually, it can't be a real father Brown story as it is supposed to happen after the second world war and Chesterton died in 1936. I've checked if there is a father Brown story similar to this one and there is not. This is something that annoys me. Nevertheless I will continue watching this serie. And I hope to find it in english subtitled because spanish does not fit.
