Saturday Night Live Host: Martin Short
16 December 2012 | by (Ireland) – See all my reviews

Silent Night: Before the show actually starts a choir of kids in red sing all of Silent Night to get us into the Christmas mood. B (MVP: Choir of Kids)

Monologue: Short comes out happy for the applause of being a comedy icon. Also happy to be back to his first love. Starting with Christmas he says it doesn't matter what religion you are only if you worship god. Then to the side is Paul Shaffer to play the piano for Martin who gets on the piano to sing a song. Martin then goes through the audience and Kristen comes back looking for free food. He goes through these strange halls including stars like Jimmy Fallon, Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson, Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels. B (MVP: Martin Short)

Tony Bennett Christmas: Alec as Tony celebrates Christmas with some singing. Out comes Jerry "The Barnacle" Bennett his young brother as a guest on the show. Then the two brothers are joined by Kanye to interview with their microphones. The two brothers start to say some bad things so Kanye leaves just before the Christmas episode ends. C (MVP: Alec Baldwin)

Kate Middleton's Pregnancy Test: A doctor is visited by someone needing to represent the royals. He tells the doctor how to act when meeting the royals and what is considered appropriate. He tells him mainly how to react to her private parts and all the things it will do. Then comes out a royal guard who had been there the whole time. He continues to take about Kate's women parts which do some impossible things. Then walks in the queen who wants to get her Judi Dench washed. C+ (MVP: Martin Short)

You're A Rat Bastard, Charlie Brown: Starring actors like Al Pacino (Bill Hader), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Jason Sudeiki), Edie Falco (Kate McKinnon), Larry David (Martin Short), Forrest Whitaker (Kenan Thompson), Kristen Chenoweth (Nasim Padrad), Michael Keaton (Tarran Killam) and Charlie's mom voiced by Fran Drescher (Cecily Tyson). They all perform scenes and shock all the kids watching the show in the audience. B+ (MVP: Kate McKinnon)

Paul McCarthy - "My Valetine": Legendary Paul comes out to sing a song while behind the piano. A simple song but very effective with his other instrument players. B+ (MVP: Paul McCarthy)

Weekend Update: Starting with some top stories featuring Hilary Clinton's hair and the Pope's twitter account. His first guest is Jacob a boy who is going to teach us all about Hanaka. After almost sounding like a roast of his family Jacob finishes with some sweet words about the show. Moving onto more top stories including a Chinese dog, porn searches and deers. The second guest is the return of The Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started A Conversation With At A Party who puts out a lot of facts about how the world should be. She ends up making fun of him more showing him all she has in her bag. B+ (MVP: Cecily Tyson)

What Up With That Christmas Spectacular?: With guests Samuel L. Jackson, Carrie Brownstein, Lindsey Buckingham. As usual the host cannot keep still and breaks out into song. When Samuel starts to talk Kenan along with the music starts a song but Samuel does not want to be cut off. During the second song out comes Jackie Robinson Jr. The next guest is the female Grincth. The show ends and Samuel is not happy for talking much. The other two guests did not speech and Lindsey is especially not happy. C+ (MVP: Kenan Thompson)

Paul McCarthy and Nirvana - "Cut Me Some Slack": Paul comes out for his second song which is more rock especially playing with Nirvana. A- (MVP: Paul McCarthy)

Restoration Hardware Reunion: Two old friends meet and catch up on what has happened to them since they last meet. One is doing James Cameron impressions and the other is acting. They continue to talk about their failings just until what they came looking for comes to them. B- (MVP: Martin Short)

Pageant Auditions: Cecily and Jason hold auditions for a school production with a singing duo who are one singer and a triangle coming out to perform "Holiday Time, Holiday Cheer" and original song. The triangle player makes a mistake so the two have a fight. The two judges do not want to use their song but they continue to listen. More mistakes are made which leads to the two breaking up and Paul going to the stage to sing "Wonderful Christmas Time", also joined by the children's chorus from the start of the show. B+ (MVP: Martin Short)

Funny episode and Martin Short was a great way to end the year and was a delight in almost every sketch. Loved all of the returning guests to.

EPISODE GRADE: B (MVP: Martin Short)
