LA Cityview 35's new "LA City Works," a show about the City's Department of Public Works, launches with a style that has never before been tried by any government organization in the country. Designed to attract and reach out to a younger audience, the show's new "edutainment" format is edgy, zany and "out-there" as it conveys a mish-mash of useful and valuable information to its viewers: a genie and merman are now associated with No Drugs Down the Drain; the merman is also associated with a mission to keep the Santa Monica Bay pollution-free. As the show's hosts - Leopold, Carly, Martin and Dante - take viewers inside, under, and around Los Angeles, they share their own unique personalities through skits and serious interviews. They highlight employees and their hard work. They reach out to personalities on the street in a fun way, capturing amusing interviews and comments.

The latest episode of "LA City Works" continues with its zany edutainment format to deliver the Department of Public Works' stories and information. This time around, our madcap hosts, Leopold and Carly pay homage to silent comedy with their interpretation of the brief history of trash in Los Angeles. Interspersed is footage of Bureau of Sanitation Historical Records Project Manager, Nat Isaac, who gives a more scholarly account of this little known history. We then head over to the Donald C. Tillman Water Reclamation Plant & Japanese Garden for the groundbreaking of a new environmentally sustainable 18,000 square foot facility. Event host, The Honorable Congressman Tony Cardenas, 29th District, chatted with us about how this new multi-purpose building will serve the public. Next, we visit with Street Services crews to learn how they maintain the City's 6,500 centerline mile street system using recycled materials. Along the way, our reporters-at-large hit the city streets and dusty trails, interviewing people at random, including hikers at Runyon Canyon and surprise special guest, film producer and director, Ron Howard, about what they do to keep Los Angeles green.
