no, Caroline, Damon is not the ugh, Stefan is the ugh...!
RavenGlamDVDCollector22 September 2019
For once, I don't agree with Caroline. The "epic" couple isn't Elena and Stefan, but Elena and Damon. The problem here lies in the casting. Ian Somerhalder is magnificent as Damon, while Paul Wesley is lackluster (besides the physique) and cold. Perhaps that is only how Paul Wesley comes across, I don't know anything about the guy, only that on-screen there is NO CHEMISTRY between him and NIna Dobrev, while there is lots of that between Nina and Ian. So it is bothersome to watch a show which suffers from a miscast Stefan, who should have been a fiery hot guy, not this cold fish...

Aww, I'd rather have talked about Phoebe Tonkin's legs, beautifully displayed towards the end of this episode. She should have been Miss Mystic Falls. April Young is, to quote a PRETTY LITTLE LIARS episode I've recently watched, "not pageant material" and that's glaringly obvious.

Ideas on paper do not always reflect in the casting.

Warning: Spoilers
Caroline who sleeps with practically every male character criticising Elaina for liking Damon. I'd pick Damon myself Stephan is annoying. The sire story line is crap

good episode with some minor annoyance

First off I liked most of the episode with the flashbacks and new orleans scenery, where this episode falls is Caroline's attitude toward Elena, Stefan was a bit of a jerk but not over the top, still love this season , the only bad plotline is the whole sire bond sideline thing but overall good episode

Back when season 4 could've made sense.

Warning: Spoilers
I remember thinking it could've become the next big season, after season 2. But the writing is so awful and unsubstantial, to please loser fan girls, it's one of the worst in my book. Even season 6, that was full on Elena and Damon fan girls pleasing, had better stories. We'll Always have Bourbon Street, is where the sire bond thing is at its peak. But it's so contradictory, it becomes clear writers couldn't handle this storyline property. Because god forbid it would imply Damon and Elena's epic love story, isn't so epic anymore. Like they said, it heighten emotions, so obviously Elena's sympathy for Damon, would turn into love. But writers never went there, and the whole thing feel too forced and disingenuous, to be appreciated. One thing good about the episode though, was the cast. Adina Porter, Madeline Zima, and Arielle Kebbel, were good additions. And I love the semi sleepover at the Salvator's house. And Caroline really spoke the truth there. Too bad the brothers characterizations is all over the place. I hate how Stefan becomes so petty and insecure, like Damon was. It's so out of character. Or should've been explained better. Lazy writing all over...
