Stong Characters in a Few Minutes

I had the privilege of watching the Gold Sparrow at the LA Shorts Fest. Not only was the Rotoscope style animation fascinating and beautiful, but the story was intriguing and has haunted me since. Even with no dialogue, the emotions and bounty hunter-type story are executed flawlessly. The film plays as an homage to silent film and steam punk, while evoking bigger questions of the artist's place in society.

Was it a statement that women drain the artistic power from men? Was its message that men are only artists for women? Maybe it's a simple warning against the subjugation of free expression. Perhaps all of these are present to some degree in the film and its mystery is what is continuing to intrigue me.

I want to see more from this animator/director team. I hope they get more people to work with them so they can crank out more films like this faster. (Or the feature version!)
