First of all, let me say that I, like you dear reader, am their biggest fan.
IMDb gives a rating of 8.7. Looking at the demographics, 48% rated a perfect 10. Another 12% rated a 9. So that's 60% of the voters voting for perfection or near perfection. To me this is just another proof that either IMDb is corrupt as hell, or blind love by fans precedes everything else.
Browncoats Unite is a "documentary" in celebration of the tenth anniversary of Firefly. A few members of the cast sit around a table reminiscing about the good old days, mostly complaining about how the network ruined their show. They have way too much make-up on them. And the camera work reached a new low level, because of the overly cheesy use of 'crash zooming'.
What they have to say is a little of this and that and complaining about how the series was treated by network. That's all. The most notable thing was that the conversation at the table is heavily (heavily!) orchestrated, combined with the earlier mentioned cheesy camera-work. We're also treated with some footage from fan gatherings (comicon), the actors sitting behind a table telling one clap trap after the other. And then the hall full of fans driven by blind love applaud hysterically. Oprah would be jealous.
Also, Kayleigh was absent. You see her briefly in the beginning. For a fan like me, that's unacceptable. The team should have been complete to celebrate their 10th anniversary. But then again, I didn't feel the footage was all that celebrating to begin with.
I wish I could say something positive about this release, but I just can't find anything significant to be positive about. This movie is boring and cheesy. Nothing else.
To conclude, buy all of Firefly, buy Serenity. Do it to send out a signal that quality is appreciated and encouraged. But don't buy this release. Because too often mediocrity has been rewarded. And that is the reason why the good stuff is rare.
This is the first review and it doesn't favor this release at all. As I suspect mostly hardcore fans will visit this page, I'm expecting heavy doses of negative votes. But it's the truth. I don't see any reason to judge the release by blind love.
