‘Veep’s’ Tony Hale Says Show’s Producers Give Actors Freedom to ‘Play With the Material’ During Reddit Ama

15 June 2016 12:59 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Heyyy, fake Uncle Jack. Tony Hale — whom you may remember from such television comedies as “Veep” and “Arrested Development” — took to Reddit for an Ask Me Anything session today, with the lion’s share of questions revolving around his two best-known characters. Asked whether he and “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus improvise any of their many scenes together, for instance, he responded that “They give us 2 weeks of rehearsal before we shoot and they allow us to play with the material. They work very hard on the scripts but allow us that freedom.”

That amount of rehearsal is “very rare,” for TV, he said in a follow-up. “Typically you show up and shoot.” That may have been the case for his one-off “Community” appearance, which Hale called “Great. I love Joel McHale and the Russo Brothers directed the episode who directed the pilot of ‘Arrested Development.'” (The Russo Brothers also directed “Captain America: Civil War,” which unfortunately doesn’t likewise feature Hale.)

Other questions and answers were less serious, like how the producers of “Veep” have managed to shoot around the hook hand his “Arrested Development” character acquired after losing his actual hand to a seal (“They’ve used CGI”) or what Hale’s favorite book is (“My daughter’s 4th grade essay…she killed it.”) Read the full Ama on Reddit.

Shane Black Ama: 'The Predator' Will Be Set in the Present Day, Robert Downey, Jr. Is the Man & More

19 May 2016 4:51 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

"The Nice Guys" is out tomorrow, and writer/director Shane Black has taken to reddit to promote his latest film with an Ask Me Anything session. Black will next helm "The Predator," which he calls a "new reimagining" of the franchise launched by John McTiernan in 1987. There's no word yet on whether original star Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role, though Black did reveal that the film will "be set in Present Day — which is to say, 2018; and so the futuristic events of 'Predators' have not yet occurred. We're on earth, the time is now…" Read More: Shane Black Q&A: How Ryan Gosling Helped 'The Nice Guys' Get Made After 13 Years Some other highlights from the Q&A: On "rejuvenating" Robert Downey, Jr.'s career with "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang": "Downey was the man. Period. Down-at-his-heels, previously uninsurable, the whole deal -- fuck it. I trusted him. »

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Han Solo

7 February 2016 3:14 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

LucasFilm

Despite Star Wars fans being split on whether we actually need the upcoming Han Solo prequel movie, for Disney and Lucasfilm it’s a no-brainer, capitalising on one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. And in a series where nearly every character, main or supporting, is beloved (well, the characters from the original trilogy anyway) that is really saying something.

While Luke is the audience identification figure and Vader and the Emperor are the personification of evil (for the most part), Han is the loveable rogue caught in the middle of it all. Along with Harrison Ford’s other big character Indiana Jones, Han is one of the most iconic heroes in all of cinema who has transcended beyond the film’s limits. Even if people don’t know Star Wars, they know Han Solo.

But a lot about the character – behind the scenes info or his adventures »
