It’s a pretty good week for genre releases, with a decent amount of titles hitting shelves today. Everyone from Scream Factory, Virgil and Anchor Bay, to a double dose of Jess Franco from Severin…there’s just something for everyone.

We thought it would be nice to tell you fright fanatics about some of the highlights of the week. The two Franco releases are pretty huge in themselves, so they’re getting their own reviews (both are two discs and full of some insanity), but we wanted to bring three other fun titles to your horror-loving attention. As a teenager, being able to watch torture porn without vomiting was an achievement that was held in high regards. My friends and I would frequently visit sites such as to seek out the latest photos of disturbing bodily injuries; we would scour the internet for the Two-Girls-One-Cup video and the Mr. Hands video. It was like a mature version of truth-or-dare; an extreme gross-out game.

After viewing numerous photos and videos of this nature, however, it is easy to become desensitized to the gore and violence and forget that not all of the people in the images are acting. The naive assumption that the brutality witnessed on the internet must be staged is one of the many issues of the 21st century that is addressed in The Den (2013).
