They manage to escape from a heavily armed group in the nick of time. Miles tells them it was Strausser, the only member of the militia who ever scared him. He thinks they won't be able to cross the bridge and will have to travel several days out of the way.
After killing a subordinate who disappointed him, Strausser orders "the girl" be brought out. It's Nora's sister, Mia.
We flash back to a childhood memory of Nora protecting her sister from a gun-wielding intruder. Their mother is dead, and Nora lies to her.

Aaron notices the pendant is missing just as Strausser's men open fire on them. Miles gives himself up as Nora takes out one of the guards and steals his gun. Just before Miles can be handcuffed she shoots several other guards. Miles and Strausser get into a brief fight before the four of them manage to escape right to the edge of a particularly choppy part of the river. They jump in.
